Should i increase nutes?? DWC

Hey all. Here's some seedlings that are a week old today. All but the far right one have roots hitting the res.

The far right one was a twin and I separated it straight away. There was no hard pulling or ripping, they came apart like as if they weren't even attached. Either way no roots are showing through the net pot yet :( I'm sure it will take off soon, as its progressing just like the others on the top. :)

Anyway. My question is, should I crank the nutes up a little. I've got them at 0.5ec and they look nice and healthy, just a little light green.

Its my first dwc run and liking the explosive growth, but I imagine that's about to get a whole lot faster soon.

They are sweet seeds green poison. Fast version.

Any advice welcomed. :)

Not sure if raising EC is a good thing. It's usually the first thing tried to increase growth and typically doesn't work out well :). .5 is probably fine for the size. I would suspect that you have a runt and there's not much you can do with a runt IMO. Once the roots are established they tend to take off. What's the temp of your Res?
 
You'd benefit from either top feeding or hand watering for now, till they get a little bigger.

When the roots hit the water in the res your growth will explode and within 4 weeks you'll have filled your tent, (least that's what happened with mine).

Good luck with keeping your water at the right temp! That was my biggest down fall, I didn't have the money for a chiller so I went back to growing in coco!
 
Plus I wouldn't increase the nutes till the feeder/ cotyledons have started to die off. They should hold all the plant need's for its initial start in life.
 
Cheers for the info, yeah res temps is a bitch, mine are sitting around 24c (74f) which is on the high side, however I know another friend who isn't havnt any issues, he runs hydrogen peroxide which I know is not the best, but seems to work.

I've got an idea for a cheap chiller setup. Basically set up a stc1000 to a chest freezer, then I can fit two res in there. The heating connection to the stc1000 just needs to be a heater mat like you use for brewing. Then just drill through the freezer wall (ensuring your not going through any important panels) and plumb it up.

Just checked today. The runt has taken off. Finally has some roots poking through.

Great! And not saying it can't be done re temps higher than 70, I did it but plants were not at their best.

Do you raise or lower that depending on what the EC does between refills? Not sure if I'm doing it right but if it goes up over the period between refill I will lower it a bit and raise if it drops

That's more of a rule of thumb. I don't bother checking the EC of waste water. If the EC is set between 1.0-1.4, you shouldn't have any issues unless the formula itself is bad.

Oh got ya, thought you were talking about DTW or some other medium. Never had anyone suggest running 1.4 or even 1 to start a plant. I'm a relatively newb so these are just questions but does a new plant really need that high of an EC? Most talk about .3 or there abouts.

That's the sort of amount o was told to do as well. But when I clone these next run, I'm going to start around 0.8-0.9. I have no doubt these ones could handle it, I almost feel like their asking for a higher does as they are really light green.

There's really no reason to start at 0.3 in DWC.

Well I did use the Res water to start clones the last two times and it worked out very well, it was 1.2 EC :).
