Should I oversize my fan and use a speed controller? Going for stealth.

Stealth is the name of the game for my impending white widow grow. I bought feminized seeds and plan on growing one good sized plant at a time in my 18" x 18" x 24" cabinet. Last time I grew the odor from one plant of bagseed was terrible and I'm not going through that again. No half measures, no cover ups, no worries, and I think that means a carbon filter is necessary.

My plan is to buy an oversized fan (probably 6") and slow it down with speed control, the large size of the fan letting me run at lower rpm while maintaining airflow. This in addition to the usual suspending of the motor with bungee cords and building a box around it. I'm building the actual filter to have as large a surface area as possible, so as to minimize the restriction on the fan as much as possible.

Thoughts?

I just did the same thing. My space calls for a 4" fan, but I bought 6" with a speed controller. I bought my carbon filter instead of making one.

I figure it is much better to underdrive the fan and help keep it quiet. Also, should you need to bump the CFM, all you have to do is turn the knob.

I use a 6 inch then added a booster fan on my 1000. that works great the booster fan doesn't make to much sound

Last time I grew I tried one of those odor eater gels and it didn't do a whole lot. I'm reluctant to trust a passive method of odor removal like ONA.

ona works great. i used the pro gel myself. but i woruld put it outside the grow area or room. i think it does something to the flavor of the buds.
