So im now finishing up my 2nd week of flower. Ive noticed how much bushier my plants have gotten. And i was wondering what yall think about removing the fan leaves especially at the bottom of my plants. Ive noticed they are slowly just dying off at the very bottom and the light penetration is low due to the bushiness of them. So after searching the threads and seeing different views on this i wanted to ask whether or not i should cut the fan leafs off of my plants to get more light to the lower bud sites. Let me no what you guys think.

Any that do not look health, drying etc. get removed, Some healthy leaves I remove too. Some people are all for trimming leaves others are completely against. It is up to you, if you have multiple plants try in on some and not on others then compare results at harvest. Then you can decide based on your own research. Which ever way you go, good luck and enjoy the ride!

Yea, thats the vibe i got while searching. Some say yes others no. I am thinking of doing it, but probably on all the plants. Figured i just do it since it wont hurt and the more light penetration to the bud sites the better. Cant wait till they are done. Been buying up all my stuff for my next grow. And this one is gowing to slow.

I always cut the bottom 1/3-1/4 off my plants to 1) increase air circulation down low, 2) removed dead and dying leafs that receive no to little light where bugs flourish, 3) it makes it easier to water, 4) it stops sucking plant energy/water/nutrients, 5) enables larger buds up higher and 6) less trimming when finished.

I agree with you. Im gonna cut off the bottom 1/4 of everything. My plants are really stretched and its a waste to let the lower stems to grow upward and wast energy when they wont produce shit for bud....Thanks guys

just taking off fan leaves is silly. if you want to lollipop the plant, then do it sooner than later. remove the bottem 1/3 branches from the main stalk.

veg leaves make energy, no use in removing them.

small flower units use energy, its smart to remove them if the plant is tall, so the energy will all go to the top flower clusters.

If fan leaves are covering up a top, i usually remove them, think about it like this, do you want a fan leaf or a top cola super dense nug? not a fluffy popcorn bud, that's what happens to the buds that don't get enough light.

loss of leaves = loss of photosynthesis = loss of energy production = increased flowering time/growth?
just a thought

So did you chop the fan leaves off yet? ;-)

Probably a good idea to trim those lower fan leaves during the veg. cycle next time or add a couple more cfls to the side. We are all learning as we go.

Why do you feel this current grow is going slow? Just curious.

i still say that removing fan leafs is not a problem to the plant

i have striped my recent scrog down to just smaller leafs and in the past 3 days everything is as it was before i pulled them off the only difference is there has been bigger growth of the plant a bud sites

Yeah, my next grow i plan on doing a scrog. Then I can compare it to my "all-natural" grow.

They do look like x-mas trees right now, so I'm expecting some improvements by flattening out the canopy.

I just hate telling anyone to chop off leaves when I don't know all the details about their growing conditions. Ya know?

yeah i under stands what you mean prosperian i think taking the leafs of in the likes of scrog and LST and stuff removing leafs work because your aiming for most bud sites in a smaller space where as if you growing all natural then i think its best to leave them on as the plant needs them
