Should LED's be closer during flowering?

I've read up about people keeping their lights closer during flowering and i was wondering if this is true or not and if so why? i used to keep my lights at 24" because my plants would start to taco at 18" but now i just let them grow into the light during flowering and one plant is at about 21" to the lights so im kind of getting worried something might happen.

they are not showing signs of any stress but i still don't understand why you'd want the lights closer. can someone please explain?

The more light you give your cannabis plants, the faster and larger they will grow. The closer the lights, the more concentrated the light is but too close will burn your plants. It will also helps to keep your plants compact or shorter. Hope this helps

The 3 600w led's I use I keep at 18" to 20" above the plants, and 24" to 28" for seedlings

i understand the compact/shortness part as i used to do that with my old light but in flowering stage we are basically looking at par levels for intensity? it's confusing because they always say the exact same thing "keep it 24 inches during veg and then drop it to 18 inches during flower depending on how your plants will react to the heat of the lights" i figured it had something to do with bud growth.

only reason i can think of why to keep plants short and compact for bud growth is so you don't have to stake as much if at all due to the weight on leggy stalks.

I find that you can keep the lights as close to the plants as you want as long as the zone within the proximity to said light is comfortable to the plant with respect to temp and rh.

If close lights cause plants to warm up they'll bleach out.

Instead of increase distance you can decrease intensity etc.
Instead of decrease distance you can increase intensity.
Variables to play with while keeping focus on comfy plant zone.

ahh so just basic lighting 101 stuff then nothing to really do with bud growth in general seems like. yea i just got a hygrometer and PH pen yesterday. water PH'd at 6.2 but it had nutrients and i used rain water since we have a ton of it and never run out. temps are at 75-81F depending on time of day of course. RH at 64% right now but as low as 57%. plants dont seem to show signs of heat stress anymore. can't get RH or temps to drop sadly so it is what it is. thinking of investing in dehumidifier soon but waiting to see how this grow turns out got about 6 more weeks of flowering to go.
