It should be inside with the fan pulling air out. My fan is actually outside my tent, in a sound deadening box. Duct work goes into the tent and into the filter.

it doesn't matter where its at as long as the air is pulling through or pushing out of the filter.... all it is, is some carbon in some metal frame with some cotton as a filter.... doesn't matter what way the air goes through it. all that has to happen is air needs to be forced through the filter, this will collect particles(smell) on the carbon which should be between the metal and cotton stuff...

^^ yep, nut just remember when placing your fan thats its always easier to pull air towards your fan than push air out of it. helpfull if temps are a big issue

It doesn't matter its going to create a negative pressure in the room so air doesn't go out of the room.

Inside the tent you have the added advantage of pulling fresh air into the tent constantly, most tent vents are on the bottom, most carbon filters on the top, so all that fresh air goes alongside your plants in which they will be very happy.
