Should the light be on the buds or the leaves?

I have plants in flowering and was doing some LST to expose bud sites.

I was wondering, is it the buds themselves that need the light or is it the leaves around them? Since it's the leaves that make carbs by photosynthesis, it seems to make sense that they are the ones that need the most light.

I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks

Yeah you hit the nail on the head. The Fan leaves absorb the most light, which takes its part photosynthesis and allows your to produce it's own food.
So yeah those useless fan leaves, play an important role.

The whole plant uses the light. The trichs on the buds can use some UVb too.
I have a couple of Reptiglo uvb bulbs shining on one side of the plants. I cant see any difference but I am interested to see if there is any difference in potency.

What I really want to know is this: When LST'ing her, should I tie the leaves back and completely expose the buds, or should I arrange things so that the leaves on the colas are not shaded by big fan leaves?

I appreciate all the comments so far.

I use a pair of those too. Move those big leaves. Tying 'em back can't hurt either. That's what I'm been doing.

Anything that is green while use the light. Buds that don't get enough light are a very pale light green, and buds that don't get enough energy from their fan leaves aren't as potent or large. So basically you want all parts of the plant to equally get the light. Don't cut shade leaves, if you move them around to make sure the buds get light too that is fine as long as the shade leaves still get light. It's an art if you are really taking that close care of your plants. Goodluck.
