Should the soil be watered before dropping a pre germinated seed into it ?

I filled some solo cups up with soil, then ran spring water through them until it ran out of the bottom. Then I made a half inch hole in the center and dropped the pre germinated ( paper towel method ) seeds into it, then covered them with soil. I figured it would be better this way because I was able to plant root tip down, without disturbing the position of the seed when pouring water over it. Also I figure with the soil be equally wet throughout the cup and the seed will not need to be watered for a few days. Does anyone have any comments as to if this was better than planting the seed in dry soil then pouring water over it ?

You did good... Its best to saturate the soil really well to make sure there are no dry pockets in there. Next time....soak the seeds in water for 24 hrs or so and then plant them...easy peasy

I use a syringe to give them water gently while they are so young. I used to use a turkey baster to give them water. Water them after you put them in the soil. I would suggest getting yourself a wooden chopstick to make the hole for the sprout to go into. I use the stick to gently move the dirt around to cover the top just before I water. Don't water them directly on top of the sprout. Go around the outside of the cup with the water.

i prepare my pots several days before sowing seeds. a few days before sowing i water the soil and let it drain 2-3 days before planting the seed. this way the soil is damp and not saturated
