I question the number. Many have an exaggerated notion of what nukes can do. 220 of the largest thermonuke tested (Tsar Bomba, 50 Mt; untested dirty version >100 Mt) could kill a billion if laid onto our biggest cities worldwide, but all life on Earth, even at the top of the Cold War there wasn’t enough megatonnage to kill everyone, let alone everything.
I question does it really matter? Either way we’re fucked at the push of the first button :(.

Aside from the humanitarian aspects, they are wasting their time with targeting civilians, it is doing nothing to stop those Ukrainians who are killing them. Every bomb they drop on a village is one they don't drop on Ukrainian soldiers, it not just cruel, it's stupid too. Fortunately they can only operate airpower over territory they control, but soon that might be risky too.

We might not be able to fight in Ukraine or offer a no fly zone, but we can do something pretty close with stingers and other truck and Humvee mounted AA systems. I imagine there are Ukrainians training in NATO countries on these systems now, stingers don't require much training. If the Russian air force thought they had it tough over Ukraine before, just wait a few weeks! They might bomb cities on the fringes of the country, but they might soon pay for even that. Meanwhile the Ukrainians will own the air at low level over friendly territory and the transports will be bringing arms and supplies deep into eastern and southern Ukraine landing at night on highways with partisans waiting.

Regardless of the “ caliber “ of nuclear armament russia possesses ( tac / icbm / hypersonic ) like the
BrahMos missile system developed with india .

The most troubling “ Device “ would be Russia’s Tsar bomb.

That alone would be the end of it all.

I still don't get it.
What the fuck is Putin's end game.?
What the fuck could possibly be worth the cost of his war?
Anyone got any ideas?
I think there is only one thing that makes sense to me.
He's a fucking deranged psychopath
He really is.
Then it makes sense
Here’s another one:

Russian pope (KGB codename Mikhailov) told Putin he’s a messiah sent by god. “May the Lord preserve the Russian land... A land which now includes Russia and Ukraine and Belarus and other tribes and peoples.” Those who fight against the historical unity of Russia are “evil forces”. He considers western consumerism a great danger to Russia (to his own power). Being poor, miserable, and suffer while slaughtering others is just the christian way.

In 2020 they finished construction of a huge cathedral with this religious nationalism madness.

Probably a whole lot of factors at play which probably don’t all make sense. Putin’s exact type of crazy isn’t that relevant, what matters is that we can conclude he’s not acting rational.

I have no idea how he managed it but from prison, Navalny called for March 6 protests in Russia and a stunningly large protest broke out across Russia.

This image was striking:

The above image was taken in Kazakhstan, where thousands showed up to protest the war.

More than 4,300 detained at anti-war protests in Russia
Police detained more than 4,300 people on Sunday at Russia-wide protests against President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine, according to an independent protest monitoring group.

Thousands of protesters chanted "No to war!" and "Shame on you!", according to videos posted on social media by opposition activists and bloggers.

Dozens of protesters in the Urals city of Yekaterinburg were shown being detained. One protester there was shown being beaten on the ground by police in riot gear. A mural in the city showing President Vladimir Putin was defaced.

"The screws are being fully tightened - essentially we are witnessing military censorship," Maria Kuznetsova, OVD-Info's spokeswoman, said by telephone from Tbilisi.

"We are seeing rather big protests today, even in Siberian cities where we only rarely saw such numbers of arrests."

On the Russian government side, they report a small disturbance, maybe:

The interior ministry said 5,200 people had taken part in the protests.

The OVD-Info protest monitoring group said it had documented the detention of at least 4,366 people in 56 different cities.

If true then the police mopped up and arrested virtually all the protesters.

And God is on Putin's side:

Patriarch Kirill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, said Russian values were being tested by the West, which offered only excessive consumption and the illusion of freedom.

Let's see, Kyiv is a major historic and religious site for the church and the Russian army is trying to level the place. That cathedral might get some use, hosting funerals soon, but I doubt Vlad will allow the dead to be honored, bad PR.

These are the "political" protesters, next it will be the economic protesters, the crowds will be bigger, older and the cops will be hurting too. You know what sympathetic cops are like!

I bet Polish scrap metal and pawn shops are making a killing now
All the looters are in the army on the Ukrainian side, the Russians seem more interested in looting food, looks like they're hungry. Eventually the scrap dealers and contractors do well after a war, there will be an economic boom in Ukraine when this is over as they rebuild with aid and seized Russian money, it will prosper, with plenty of jobs.
