Should women be able to legally have segregated (by gender) public gyms?

Should women be legally allowed to have segregated public gyms?

So a quick yahoo search says that YES, there are men's only gyms. Guess there are sometimes legitimate reasons and legal support for excluding a given group.

Good :)

I was going to say no... but some things like yoga, pilates and zumba might make the ladies feel a little self conscious and oggled. I mean flirting at the treadmill is one thing but if you're looking through your kegs as you get into a straddle split you can feel a bit...icky and dirty just from being watched doing it... This si coming from someone who posts pictures of herself in lingerie; men watching you do gym movements makes you feel dirty... And girls who go to the gym may not be feeing too confident about their shape... I HATE going to ballet class with hardly any men and just mirrors as it is.

For normal stuff like rowing machines and treadmills I say women should just laugh off, ignore or accept whatever attention they get. Guys will be guys. Only if they are really doing something that puts them in a compromising position like yoga etc
Ridiculous. You just think it's creepy when men do it. I guarantee you a hefty portion of those Women Only gyms are lesbians/bisexual. I bet you have no problem with other women ogling you even though you are bisexual. Which is to me hypocritical, because it's still ogling for sexual reasons. And if you do have a problem with it, should there be straight-only women gyms so you aren't stared at by other women? Think about that the next time a chick is behind you in a wide-angle seated forward bend.

I wish my wife was a little more fit to be able to do that but she's working on it. She just got the P90X DVDs so this Winter she's giving those a try. Maybe by next year.
Dude I tried that p90x shit and all I can say is FUCK THAT. I made it a few days before giving up.

Should they be able to?

Yeah, why the fuck not?

Guys can have gyms without girls, too. It's called "private establishments".

That's not really true look at how many private clubs that were for men only and they had been since their establishment 80-100 years ago that were sued by women who felt they to have an exclusive club for men is unfair. My question is if women find it so difficult to do sumptin like yoga because they feel uncomfortable doin downward dog or sumptin like that then maybe they shouldn't wear pants so tight you can see their camel toe outline when they bend over. I mean I've been in my share of yoga classes and if those spandex pants r a necessary part of doing yoga then why is it that no guys wear em? If u don't wanna be stared at don't wear sumptin so tight I can see the outline of ur kidneys, I know plenty of chicks that work-out wearing shorts and a t-shirt cause they not lookin to impress anyone. Lemme ask the ladies that feel they have this problem a question, does it really bother u when guys check u out wearing almost nuttin at the gym? Or is it that you only want certain guys to check you out, but if its a guy u aren't interested in then it bothers u, right?

This reminds me of that SNL skit Tom Brady was in about sexual harassment in the workplace, as long as ur good lookin its not they don't mind(general statement, not always true of course).

Hey Jimmy Y'd u give up on that PX90 thing? To difficult?

Also I voted other since its hard to say no to sumptin that's already around. But they shouldn't be allowed to go into already established co-ed gyms and change them to women only. But if they wanna join Curves with all the other over-weight middle-age soccer mom's more power to em.

the comparison that mora made makes no sense. do you see men an women pullin their pants down ass out or whippin their dicks out in the gym? no you dont so why would you ever compare some shit like that. lol

as far as you post kuroi most of those classes you mentioned arent held in the middle of the gym for all to see. they're usually in a room thats away from the main workout area. i think that whole perception is bullshit there's a real easy a way a girl can get less or little attention at the gym. wear baggy clothes there's no need if you feel uncomfortable about your shape to wear skin tight clothes like a slut. to me if you were those clothes in the gym you want the attention just like the dudes who wear them cut shirts where they're basically shirtless. its all for attention i my book. im in shape an i wear big shirts an basketball shorts cause im not grabbin for attention if i go to the gym i go to get in better shape. btw kuroi i like you so FUCK all them ppl :finger: that dont.:bigjoint:

im cool with curves an all that kinda shit they have. what im not cool with is when i got into my gym which is for males an females an they have a section for both sexes to workout an then they have another room with the same gym equipment as the other room, but its female only.

That sounds good... Then all the self conscious women can go to that gym until they feel hot enough to strut the treadmill at the unisex gym...everybody wins...

I own this DVD... actually a very intense workout but I wouldn't do it in public!

They were more like social clubs for executives than just a gym, a place where they could meet up outside the office and discuss deals. That was why as more women became executives they started to sue those clubs for discrimination. Like the Los Angeles Athletic Club in Downtown Los Angeles, although idk if they were ever sued but in '88 the members voted to allow women.

well i can see logic with that, but not if they just wanted to workout at the same place as the guys.

legal segregation is wrong . . . .bottom line i think . . . women/men get oogled everywhere.

so being at a gym is no different, do women ask for segregated beaches so they can tan

nope they just do it . . . knowing full well they are getting starred at . .

so why is a gym any different then a pool or beach or lingerie section of store(not talking about dressing rooms just the section and shopping)

to further the idea that we need segregation of teh sex's is to give weight to the continued idea that women and men are so different that they cannot be around each other without some incident or antagonism protagonism

i dont know . . . .. i get it and i dont, i mean for biological and pyschological/sociological reason i understand there needs to be sensitivity . . .but if life just played itself out, creepy guy would get kicked for harassment if continued oggling was the agenda vs working out, business need to be more responsible for what happens inside there doors and not rely on BS legislation and laws that take away rights as much as they give

i think if you had to draw a line in the sand and say is any kind of segregation legal in a modern society id pick no segregation

the myth that men and women are different is crazy to me, i mean in the womb we were all going to be women all ready before some gene express;s itself and bam, testies instead of ovaries

Women who go to the gym like to get some attention That's why they are trying to develop a nice piece of ass. Women who don't like to have men attention stay home close to the TV eating all sort of sweets to develop a huge piece of ass so they don't get to much attention
Exactly......If they were segregated I bet only overweight middle aged women would go there.Kind of like curves
