Sponges should be fine, but i've always found my reciepe for success is using Jiffy #7's pre-soaked with Superboost (150ppms) and then take my healthy cutting and dip it in root burst powder(RBP). RBP has the highest indole 4 buytric acid, i could find at 0.8%. And the Jiffy pucks cost penny's compared to anything else!
My issue with jiffy pellets are that they contain peat , peat breaks down and becomes very acidic , not good for an organic grow and your right , they are very cheap , i prefer to work soil less with canna products etc..

i dont see no reason for this not to work aslong as it has bin sterilized prior to cloneing i hope it works nothing wrong with trying new ideas its what the supply companys dont want you to do is homework lol i am guessing a person could even use ass wipe if he had to aslong as he kept it moist i think it would work ;-)

So i made my own root riot cubes from some normal household sponges , they were cheap , they are the same kind of texture as root riot , i have washed them out and pre soaked in a clonex/water mix , anyone forsee any issues here ?? i cant see why it wont work , i am not reliant on these cuttings they are surpless so ima see what happens , any opinions?

yeah i get ya , but the root riot cubes dont have this and i wanted an exact comparison , they are sat in root riot trays tho , they have circular holes in the bottom and a mister directly above...

Will it work? Maybe....
I would NOT re-use them thats for sure.
I would use all natural sponges as well. Rince them out WELL. Otherwise it could work...sure.
You can't reuse them smart guy. The plant will fill it with roots and it will get planted with the plant. Not even possible to reuse...

If this thread gets buried, I'm moving it to the DIY section of this forum, if that's OK with you Clonex. This needs to be available there. BTW, I'll leave a permanent re-direct to it for all the subscribers. This is a great idea.

Ok , so far so good , i can see no difference as yet between the sponge and root riot , changed the water and cleaned tray etc right through.....

1 thing that i am eagerly awaiting the result for is this ,
someone like me who grows in tight restricted hard to get to open space, carrying heavy mediums to these places can be a big pain, also disposing and moving the medium after grow that i dont re-use is a real pain and very heavy,
if the results of this are good , i am going to attempt a "sponge in pot" grow, using canna nutes , this would be cool if i can pull it off , big savings to be had , with the cost of energy right now , cutbacks must be made.....

Hosterity measures in RIU:)
