Sickmeds: Green Crack S1 Feminized

When I agreed to test out the Williams Wonder ceeds from Sickmeds, the breeder, Red, asked me if I was willing to test out his Green Crack ceeds too. So I said, sure. . .why not?

But first (as always). . .the backstory.

Green Crack is a famous strain supposedly going back to the early 1990s in Athens Georgia. The strain itself is supposedly a cross of a late 1980s Super-Sativa-Seed-Club Super Skunk with an unknown California indica. This strain was never deliberately bred, it was basically just a one off cross that just turned out to be excellent, then maintained as clones. Once the strain made it over to the West Coast, supposedly Snoop Dogg and his crew got their hands on it, and loved it to the point where Snoop named it (tongue in cheek) "Green Crack".

Eventually the strain became famous in its own right, being one of the most well known and popular "clone only" strains. Apart from the pithy name, the strain is known for an unusual combination of a fast 7 week flowering time, speedy sativa-type high, strong mango-like fruity aroma, and relatively high potency.

Because many dispensaries don't want their product to be associated with hard drugs like cocaine, this strain does appear commercially under other names including "Green cush", "Green candy", and just "Cush" (with a "c").

In this particular case, the Sickmeds breeder Red told me he obtained two separate cuts of Green crack from two different sources just to compare them to ensure that his starting material was legitimate. Then he used colloidal silver to reverse one to create male flowers, then pollinated for S1 feminized ceeds.

Note that its a popular misconception that ceeds created by self-pollinating a mother plant will be identical to the mother. That's typically only true if the mother is itself an inbred line. If the mother is a hybrid (and by all accounts this line is), then a cross of a female plant with its own pollen is a usual sexual cross between hybrids that would be expected to throw off a number of phenos.

So in this case we should expect some phenotypic variation in the S1 feminized ceeds. The breeder has confirmed to me that this is the case, noting that although some phenos will be a little more indica-dominant and some more sativa-dominant, all of them should retain the characteristic fruity scent and fast flowering time. A super-purist may not want this variation, but until/unless someone does the hard breeding work to create a Green-crack derived stable line, this sort of S1 hybrid is probably the closest representation you can get of this line in ceed form.

There was one other breeder selling feminized S1 Green Crack ceeds at one point, though his asking price was quite high, and I'm not sure they are still available anymore. So far as I know, these are the closest thing out there to a true Green Crack in ceed form right now.

My questions for this grow are just the following:

-Will these plants have the same characteristic fruity smell/flavor as the original?
-Will the line be potent?
-Will the flowering time be fast like the original?

That's probably all you really need out of something like this, and I'd say if the answer to all three question is "yes" I'd count the line as good.

On this grow journal, all comments and question are welcomed, so long as they're civil.

Also, feel free to share any experiences you've had with Green Crack, growing it, smoking it, good or bad.

And here we go:

Sickmedsgreencracks1.jpgSickmedsGCpack.jpg

Ceed pack has a nice color photo and is embossed on the back with an imprinted hemp ceed and the company name (you can see it sort of glowing in the second picture).

Ceeds themselves are inside a plastic test tube with some cotton and dessicant. Good presentation for long term storage, and frankly, a better presentation than some of the bigger name ceed companies.

Since these are feminized, I won't need gender selection and will only be planting one ceed. Ceed goes right into a party cup with soil, loosely covered to about 1/4 inch, then watered and the cup covered with a baggie to prevent drying out. In my experience, this works just as well as paper towel germination, and avoids one transplantation step when the seedling is at its most fragile.

While we wait for germination, here's a more detailed history of the strain lifted from a post quoted on marijuana.com. Seems pretty credible to me:

http://www.marijuana.com/wiki/green-crack/

Green Crack was an 89 SSSC skunk#1 crossed with an unknown indica in athens ohio in about 1990. It was indeed made by cecilC. Cecil is the kind of guy who would'nt want to take credit for making it as it was just a random cross. The part about MrGreenBeans was pretty acurrate. Only mrgreenbeans was'nt living anywhere near georgia. He had people that were bringing him pounds of Green Crack aka Cush and he loved it and wanted to grow it. He kept trying to get clones from these guys and they would always say no.

Eventually for the price of $2,500 he was able to get a clone of it. Those georgia guys, mrgreenbeans and CecilC all call it Cush with a C not to be confused with Kush. I think when mrgreenbeans got the clone it was around 94.
Cecils old friends that had the Cush still he stopped talking to for reasons and was'nt in that area anymore. Another old user some of you may remember named Bunz had this plant out in southern cali that was not named but he was selling herb to snoop dog if you believe the story(but bunz was'nt one to make shit up), was selling herb to snoop dog and snoop named it green crack.

Years later, I met mrgreenbeans on a canadian IRC chat client and invited him to come chat at truestoners. He did and he and cecil kicked it off and the three of us met up and exchanged clones. At the same time or rather right before then, cecil got Bunz to send him clones of green crack and a few others and the green crack and the Cush are identicle. Now as everyone knows I used to send out tons of clones/cuttings constantly and the green crack aka Cush was one that I sure had a big hand in spreading out. Sometimes newbies in chat bitch about me hoarding shit, but anyone who thinks that has'nt a clue. Look how many folks out there have some of my old strains now. CecilC was the same way though he was a bit paranoid about sending out and sometimes would take forever to do it, but he honestly is and was very much against hoarding, thinking that everyone should grow the best possible. So green crack aka Cush sure got spread around a bunch.

I have heard folks saying that her structure looks like old skunk#1 or Super Skunk, but it is not, it is what it is, just apprears very similliar, but hell let's think about it Super Skunk = skunk#1 x afgani, Cush/green crack = skunk#1 x indica, same basic theory of a cross. She is very fast flowering, the fastest by far that I have ever seen from the approximatly 200 strains that I have grown. She has this super sweet like sickly sweet candy fruit taste and smell. She is a good one for sure. She is not my favorite, I find that with those types of fast sativa doms I build a fast tolerance, of course everyone else gets ripped from it. I think she is decently potent, not schrom or OG kush, but not weak by any means. Well that's the story if anyone has any questions shoot. peace (Texas Kid)

Pretty sure green crack is in everyone's top 5. Hope yours turns out dank.
Me too.

If it does, it will be in my top five!

Meanwhile, there is some good information on S1 Green Crack ceeds in this thread, including some talk about the Sickmeds version:

https://www.rollitup.org/seed-strain-reviews/591270-sickmeds-green-crack-psyco-crack.html#post8331059

Responding to one of the issues brought up in the other thread, the breeder has confirmed to me that yes, he does flower outside, explaining why his green crack turned purple (does that make it "purple crack"?). He also mentioned that the S1 offspring turn purple more readily than the parent.

Green crack ceed has sprouted after three days, showing good vigor, and was put under a CFL bulb.

Lets skip ahead a bit. . .

Here she is, 13 days after sprout. Plant is under a 45W CFL, run 18-6.

GCseedlingday13.jpgGCseedlingday13top.jpg

Based on leaf structure, looks like I may have one of the indica-dominant phenos.

Well, I obtained the ceeds directly from the breeder a few months back. Cannazon and Single Ceed Center appear to be sold out of both William's Wonder and Green Crack S1, but Sea of Seeds appears to have them in stock right now. . .at least for the moment.

If you want some, you might also contacting Sickmeds directly. If you tell them JoGro from rollitup sent you it won't hurt (but might not help!).

In any case, I'm 99% sure the breeder is working on new stocks of both William's Wonder and Green Crack, so at worst, you should have another chance at these again later.

On "Dream queen", cannabis drug strain naming is often a bit obscure and sometimes inconsistent.

My understanding is that Dream Queen is a cross between "Blue Dream" (Silver haze x Blueberry) and "Space Queen" (which is Cinderella 99 [which may. . .or may not just be an inbred pheno of Jack Herer] x Romulan). Some people might be calling Green Crack Dream Queen or vice versa, but I think these really are supposed to be two entirely different lines.

Green Crack also sometimes gets confused with various "mango" or "papaya" lines because of its characteristic mango-like scent.

Not incidentally, the chemical terpene myrcene is the one responsible for the characteristic mango-like scent/flavor in green crack and other mango-like strains. This particular terpene also supposedly has a physiologic effect of increasing transport of cannabinoids across the blood-brain barrier, helping to improve the "high", and this may (or may not) be a contributing factor to the racy effect of this particular strain.

Here we are 26 days into veg, still under 45W CFL.

Since these are feminized ceeds, I don't need a sex selection stage, so I transplanted this right into the 3 gallon pot that will eventually be used for flowering. Might as well avoid unnecessary transplantation later.

GCday26veg.jpg

Still big fat indica-like leaves. Interestingly, plant is also wider than tall at this point.

Not sue what u mean by sex selection. I'm pretty sure if your talking about fem seeds u still need to watch them very close.

For what its worth here is the ad copy from a different breeder's version of Green Crack S1.

Riot Se-eds - Green Crack S1

PURE GREEN F**KING CRACK

Originally titled Green Cush when it was released as a clone only, this mango smelling beauty is now world famous for its potency and yield! Mostly grown as a connoisseur cash cropper, this is an EASY grow. We reccommend Lollipopping after a good veg period and blooming, from there you'll have a majour center cola with a few side branches. Connoisseur smell and taste, tons of potency, THC - 24%.

We don't f**k around, this is the real deal, the first to release it in S1! Stay tuned and you'll be the first to have it.

Note Green Crack WILL TURN PURPLE in cold temps. Makes for an amazing treat - The Purple Green Crack. Also look for the Green Crack hybrids as well - SAC #3 OG x Green Crack, Green Crack x Pre98 Bubba, Green Crack x Blowfish, Green Crack x Afgooey, Green Crack x Double Purple Doja, Green Crack x Blueberry, and many more!

GET ON THE CRACK!
Riot has been asking $140 for a pack of six ceeds, but as of this posting is out of stock.

Sickmeds is asking $76 for a 10-pack of fem ceeds, which is almost exactly 1/3 the price.

Well to be clear, typically I sprout the ceeds, then put the plants into a small container until they show gender, then cull out any males. This is basically to save space before going to the final large pot for flowering.

In this case, since I'm starting with feminized ceeds, I'm expecting a female plant here. There should be no need for me to cull males, and so I'm skipping the intermediate step of veg in a small pot. That's all I meant.

I'd hope it goes without saying that I'm actually going to look at my plant in flowering! That is, I'm *NOT* going to flower a plant and NOT quickly notice that its a male, let alone take a male 6-8 weeks through flowering without noticing!

If, just for sake of argument, this feminized ceed turned out NOT to be a female, I'd notice within at most two weeks after flowering and probably quite a bit sooner than that. If that were the case, not only would I not be very happy, but probably neither would Sickmeds after I posted the results in this forum. But in truth I've got zero worries here. Making femmed ceeds isn't "rocket science". The breeder from Sickmeds is a pro, he knows what he's doing, and he's already grown out these ceeds and tested this line. He's not going to stake the reputation of his company and all his hard work on some screwup.

Again, I have no question these are what they are purported to be, namely feminized S1 ceeds from a Green Crack mother. The question is only how similar or different are the S1 plants (which are effectively an F2 cross of the Skunk and CA indica Green Crack parents) to the clone only line.

In doing my homework for this grow, I've already come across a few other reports on S1 Green Crack grows. As above, there is another breeder who has sold these commercially and if you search around the internet you can find a pretty good third-party grow report on his version. Earlier in this thread is a link with good insight from a different board grower who posted his experiences growing out a few non-commercial Green Crack S1s. The results I've seen posted on these grows do seem to confirm what the Sickmeds breeder told me, namely that the S1 Green Cracks will give off plants with different structures, but retain the characteristic scent and potency of the clone-only parent.

One of the nice things about Green Crack in general is its supposed to be a relatively fast finisher. I've seen claims that the true clone is done in as soon as 6-7 weeks of flowering, though I've also at least one place claim 7-9 weeks. Sickmeds says 49-55 days (ie 7-8 weeks) on its website for these S1s and that seems fairly plausible to me.

We'll see what we see. . .that's why we have grow reports!

Day 31. Again 18-6 under a 45W CFL.

GCday31veg2.jpg

Note sure the picture is doing this justice.
That second fan leaf from the bottom is probably as big as my hand, and the plant is less than a foot tall with only 4-5 nodes on it. I've never seen leaves this big in a seedling this small before.
Stem is also getting pretty fat.

What the heck. . .all my posted pictures appear to be gone.
Can anyone else see my pictures or is it just me?

EDIT:
OK, forum mod told me there is a glitch in displaying images uploaded right now, and they're working on fixing it.

I have no idea if the old pictures will every display correctly again, or if they're permanently gone. In the meantime, we carry on.

Here is a repost of the last picture, what the plant looks like after one month of veg time 18-6 under a 45W CFL.
GCday31veg.jpg

Now here we are after five days of 12-12 under a 250W HPS:
GCday5flowerrsz.jpgGCday5flower.jpg

I have to say, this is pretty odd. I have never seen fan leaves this large before on any indoor plant, period, let alone one only a few weeks old grown under a small CFL!

OK, looks like Rollitup fixed the problem, and all the older images are back. That's good. . .now I don't have to repost all of them.

Continuing, here we are day 11 of flowering:
GCday11flower2.jpegGCday11flowerfan.jpg

The second image shows just how big the lower fan leaves are. The whole plant is maybe only 18" high, and the stem is pretty massive too:

GCday11flowerStem.jpg

Don't know what that "means", but if the buds turn out as big as the stem and fan leaves, I'll be pretty happy!

Been running Green Crack I got from clone for about a year now. I will do my 9th harvest next week. My GC usually is good for 4-5oz off a 3' plant. Veg 4weeks from rooting clones. I am running 4' 8 bulb t5 for veg, and 1000hps. This is by far my favorite strain:fire: I grow OG kush, Purple Jack Herrer, Purple Master Bubba Kush, and White Widow A. I am subbed and excited to see what you do. I will post up some candy pics for ya next week! I would love to try these from seed. I am sprouting turpentine and deiserella(cindy99x sour diesel) right now. Was feeling the need for more variety in my life:eyesmoke:
