Side by side with HLG Scorpion Diablo vs. Diablo X Spectrum

I currently have the HLG Scorpion Diablo 650's (2020 versions) and was trying to decide on getting the new regular scorpion diablo 750 or scorpion diablo x's. I decided to get one of each and see how different they really are. I have the permanent marker under each and am running the lights full blast with CO2 @1400ppm until week 6. I was told by HLG that the x's are much harder to grow under and absolutely require CO2 supplementation but produce better product and yield. So far in week 3 they have been equally easy to run. But I will give updates as needed and a final breakdown of quality/ quantity on here when trimmed and cured.

As far as being an even playing field I am doing my best but I would say the diablo'x canopy is slightly less optimal than the regular verson and is also inbetween 2 lights where the X' is at the end of a row so will be interesting to see if it can still beat it out. I saw a bunch of questions on these two lights through out various forums and figured I'd give the people what they want by doing this review.

It is very noticeable with the naked eye the difference in spectrums. And the over all build quality of these lights is a huge step forward from the previous models, am very happy even before seeing final results. They all have daisy chain connections as well as network ports for dimming wich they were lacking in previous versions. Also the main wiring connections are much more industrial and sturdy looking.

Whats your general expectations? What are the details youre looking close at?

In general those 2 lights main difference is the amount of green in the spectrum.

Will we be getting any photos?

Thx for doing this, ive been looking out for this very comparison :)

Im expecting both of the new lights to outperform in quantity and quality from the 2020 version of the light. And between the new regular and x spectrum im expecting the x to produce larger quantity and quality flower. But those expectations are only from what I was told by the HLG rep.

Im really just going to be looking at over all weight and terps and structure. As of now everything looks the same but I will post some pics once things are a bit more developed to show if their are any differences.

What factors in quality are you looking out for?
Do you have any expectations regarding how the plants grow under each?
Just trying to figure out what nitty gritty metrics youre looking at with these two lights :)

Just over all and going to see what comes of it based on observation. Ill be looking into stretch, stack, density, trichomes, leaf/stem colors, how much they are drinking, everything.

So just got these chopped and was really happy with the lights over all. But I honestly could not tell a bit of a difference at all. Other than actually looking at the color of the light emited. So here are some harvest pics will have yeild numbers in a couple weeks for you guys. The regular version I suppose if i was really getting into it had slightly more fade on the fan leaves.

So the numbers are in and with remembering that the Scorpion Diablo X was on the end of the row and the canopy was a tiny bit less optimal than the regular Scorpoin Diablo....
Diablo X-1067g per light
Regular-1089 g per light

As far as structure, and appearance they seem identical. However after trimming an baging them up the Diablo-X batch smelled significantly better. Both the same terp provile but the regular had a hint of that green/chloriphil smell that needs a week or so to cure out where the Diablo-X seems to be almost ready straight off the scissors which I found very interesting.

Over all I feel like the X would very slightly outperform the regular in my very small sample set, maybe by 1-3 percent. And with the better smell I would have to say it took the win.

Again this is being really nit picky and they are extremly close and only sampling with one strain. I'll prob run this same experiment in my upcoming run with something new.

Nit picky is where the real information and knowledge is.
Results seems to align with where my working hypothesis is; green builds fiber/stick/woodiness and diverts flower energy towards more structure related things away from fragrant flower. After dry and cure see if you can see any difference in density, the old squeeze the bud test :)
Also you may feel more of a terp profile difference after more rime in cure.
