I dont smoke due to the type of work I do. I started to grow so my wife could have a cheap and sage alternative to going out buying... Well I'm addicted... I love growing.best hobby i picked up. Well I want to work with new plants with out paying an arm and leg for seeds. I was thinking of taking to my buddy and asking them for there bags seeds..maybe pay .25 a seed. Only draw back is I will never truely know what I am growing. Basically my question is would you spend money an order seeds or just get them from friend. Remember I'm not a smoker or seller...sure to the lack of seeds I have pretty much mastered cloning my current plant...

If you have the budget, they can save you a lot of disappointment. If you do it just as a hobby and for your wife, I would recommend to buy feminized seeds so that you dont waste 40 days growing a bunch of males. You should get your wife to look at some strain descriptions and just order a strain that suites her needs, yet not too hard to grow since you are new to it!... With that said, I would get the seeds from the friend if he is be able to hook you up with feminized seeds or if you have a lot of space and don't care about caring for unknown males for a long period of time.

genetics are one of the biggest factors in quality and i know it doesn't matter the most to you but also quantity. Yes i would sack up and get a couple beans off of the attitude. they have the best freebies

if u can clone, and you have the space... buy a pack of seeds, pop them, grow them, clone them, flower out the clones and see which one you like the best. then keep the mother that produced your favorite plant and abracadabra, you have a stable plant, you know what your growing, and my personal favorite, you will already know the nutrient requirements for the following clones off that mother.

Order a few different strains of 10 packs reg seeds. Now grow out at least 4-6 of each strain(to help ensure you get at least one plant of each gender with each strain. Take the boys and seperate them from the girls when you can tell for sure they are male. now all you have to do is collect the pollen from the boys and apply it to some lower buds on the girls so that only a few parts are seeded but each one that is has a large amount of seeds. you will then have plenty of seeds to grow out so you wont need to buy more and you can store and save them for backup if something was to go wrong if you wanted to clone the plants as the way of starting the next generation instead of seeds. its worth the cost to get the good seeds, you want to grow your wife the best smoke possible right?

Here's what I think...
Since you have mastered cloning I would say order a regular strain seeds or few depending on how many strains you want to work with then grow them out. Save the males and once you have 1 male and 1 female of each strain that you like make a batch of seeds and stabilize it. Do this for each strain so that you have a batch of stable seeds and since a single female can yield a large amount of seeds yu can save them so if any thing happens to the plants you have now then you can just pop a few seeds into the soil and grow them out.
2 Strains can give you a bunch of different crosses that you want so the more you have to work with the more you get to chose from to make.

Darkdestruction has it right and I might add one thing to it. If you want to make the seeds and have a few strains, kind of research more like traits or family lineage. This can make breeding easier in the beginning, keeping a similiar gene pool will give your wife the high she espects each time and you still have the variety of growing different phenos and crosses. If you have the room you can have your indica and sativa strains, one for day and one for nightime.
Also, if you can grow out your males and take the pollen, it stores very well in the fridge. I place mine in an airtight container with a few grains of rice and have good luck so far of at least 12 months. I guess I will find out in the future how long but you can make lots of seeds and backcross with the original male and not have him around,lol.
Not to plug sannies but if you have $200 you could easily have more variety and similiar family backgrounds in both sativa and indica or hybrid. Growing out your own crosses is so gratifying and in the end oh so time consuming but a labor of love. Best of luck in your quest

Well, personally I like knowing what I smoke. Each plant may look very similar, but they have different amounts of crystals, different amounts of oils, different smells, and each one produces a fairly unique high. If you do bag seed, theres a good chance the seed was a result of a hermie, unless you are getting it from mexican brick weed where they don't even sort male and female. Its OK to grow a hermie seed, but the seed will have more of a chance of being a hermie its self.
Take it from another stoner, your wife would appreciate some good known genetics, and there are a lot of fairly cheap seeds out there. Its usually just the strain of the weed/month/year that is expensive. Even then, you get 10 seeds, and you can produce a few ounces off the seed. Even if you pay 200 for 10 seeds, an ounce of top shelf here costs $200, so you're still coming out on top. I suggest you look into nirvana's white label, any skunk strain, or even kush. They're all pretty inexpensive. I never pay over $60 for seeds, and they turn out just as good as the top notch stuff that I'm pretty sure was home grown anyway.

its hard to answer your question. I mean how high does your wife like to get? does she like a light buzz or does she like to be drooling on herself after 1 rip
if she like being super stoned then read up on plants and potency, from what i hear Cheese strains are really potent.

i wouldnt go messing around with breeding right now as you said you can clone well and once you find that perfect strain you can use up the rest of them beans and just keep it going forever with clones, maybe order an extra pack of fem seeds in case something happens with your grow for backup.

It seems everyone has said to buy seeds as its a better deal. After reading all the post it seem you all have answered my next question also; which was regular versus feminized seeds. I was leaning more toward feminized seeds so i can take clones; but it seems everyone is suggesting regular. I am assuming because the more you clone the less potent a plant gets.

No here's a few reasons why I would chose regular seeds over feminized seeds.
1 - Cheaper to buy over feminized seeds ie I can get 15 seeds of 1 strain for $50 but I can get the feminized strain of it and it cost $80
2 - You can save pollen from any males to breed with and or make a batch of seeds for your stock of that strain.
3 - If you want you can turn a female plant hermi to make feminized seeds.
Also cloning plants doesn't make the clone less potent.

The mother loses vigor after about 5 years, and all clones from her won't be as good. To circumvent this, you take your clones, then place the mother into the room and flower it with your other plants every once and a while. Grow another mother from one of the clones you're making. Thats what I've heard anyway.
