would love to see it and see how you keep temps down. i'm having a hard time with high temps w/260W the 42W bulbs put out alot of heat...for a CFL that is.

very nice plants sir
Thank you :-) To answer your question:

I have 16 small CFL's in there to spread the light and the box is just 1 metre tall by 1 metre wide by 30cm's deep SO I have a circulation fan mounted at left to blow the hot air towards the exhaust fan at top right. It just about works but on hot days I leave the cabinet open and temps hold at upper seventies. At coooler times of the year its not a problem, the room temp is fairly constant at 70 most times of the year and temps hold at around 75- ish. Its never caused me any issues so long as you are moving some air through those buds.

But I know what you mean about CFL's, they do put out a bit of heat but with fans running you can still keep within 2-3 " of the bulbs I find, its the ballast part that gets warm!

Wow great grow love the nugs man looking good. Don't let anyone tell you guys you can't grow nugs with cfls I can and have a bunch. My avatar pic is my last harvest with cfls got about an oz off of 12/12 from seed from each plant. I had two so damn near two ozs. I did just recently move to HPS for bigger yeilds and denser nugs. If your cfl set up can hold you over till next harvest man there isn't a thing to complain about. I smoke to much so I had to make the switch. I might have to take your cloning method of just taking two or three clones. What do you use as a humidity dome or anything. BTW wow your cfls are weird looking where do you live? Ha us americans aren't used to seeing screw in parts like that hehehehe.

Very nice grow man +REP. I grew NL from willy jack seeds and it was sativa ' ish, not like most NL. I also used CFL 's and LST.

They do just fine mate, trust me! Been doing this along time, I'm in my fifties now and started back in eighties.....and I'm posting in the CFL section so I hoped I'd be amongst kindred spirits here :-)

Like I said, I get everything I want/need from my ladies and thats my bottom line. Why not stick around and watch her flower ....I'll show you what CFL's really CAN do!

Anyway, good to meet you Mcgician :-)

Heres some of what her mother plant produced last grow and a shot in late flowering of the last 2 NL's.... CFL's CAN do the job if you use them correctly.
All that matters is your happy. I don't try to please any one but myself. Nice job.

Hi there greenfirekilla :-) Thanks for looking in here and for the comments.

I'm in the UK and thats our standard 'bayonet' fitting here. The CFL's here are now getting bigger and more efficient. Its still hard to find the 6400 'daylight blue' CFL's on the high street, we don't really have anything like your Walmart here sadly.

Heres a couple of pics of my little clone box/veg box. Nothing too high tech here for rooting the clones, just a cerial box covered in clingfilm and kept nice and warm.... takes about 10 days with this NL strain. They are currently day 7 from cutting and looking strong.

Also a couple more shots of the NL at day 19 of 12/12 after a 2 weeks veg. I'm going to take future pics on that table so that it gives a clear comparison of growth rate under my CFL set up. The king size papers give an idea of scale :-)

Hope I have answered everything so far..... if not I'll do so later.

I like the clone box nice idea there man. Do you just stick you cuttings straight into the soil? Do you use any rooting solution? I'm about to try my hand at cloning and have built me a lil clone box or accutally I'm currently in the process of just waiting on the first coat of paint to dry.

Hi gfk :-)

The simple method is fine for rooting clones, just keep them as warm and humid as you can and they WILL root everytime.

I just use soil but jiffy plugs or rooting cubes are good too, but plain old soil works just as well! I take my cuts about 3 to 4" and use 'clonex' gel, it just speeds things up. Main thing is to give them a light warm misting every other day and keep everything warm. Dont fuss over them too much either :-) I leave them covered for a week then gradually expose them to the air for a while each day...watch them, if they begin to wilt just cover them again and they will be straight back up again. Just dont rush them, within 2 weeks you will have rooted cuts.

Good luck.

Ok sounds good. I've been researching the plastic bag method. I have a humidome and everything it just isn't gonna fit in my clonebox. I need to pick up another bottle the one I have now just took a shit on me. I will be using rooting gel, do you soak your cuttings in water before dipping them into the rooting gel?

Hey MatureSmoker! Great grow you have going there. Figures you are across the pond. The last site I hung out at before they went belly up had lots of good UK growers posting there. Must say I learned a bit from em. Like you I am CFL at about 330 watts and similar sized grow space, two fans etc......anyway I got a couple NL to germ this winter. We can compare notes. I also LST. Dunno if you are an organic freak or not but I have been brewing a compost all summer and plan to use it as part of my growing medium this winter once its well composted. I like dirt and water...stuff grows in it! LOL

HI there Old Coot :-) good to 'meet' you.

Sounds like our methods have a lot in common. I did used to grow organically mainly using fresh seaweeds and stuff picked off the beach here but I found I had some kind of allergic reaction on my skin around harvest time, once I changed back to the Bio Bizz nutes (which are organic anyway) it stopped! But I try to keep everything as clean and natural as possible and like you I'm a believer in good old dirt for growing :-)

GFK, to answer your question, I just dip in Clonex gel and straight into the soil. I like to use clear plastic cups so I can see those roots when they hit the sides or bottom, once established then pot them on. Been doing this so long but I still get a thrill every time I see those roots!

Couple more shots today at day 21 of 12/12. Flowers begining to form nicely. I have considered pulling them down a little more but I think I'll let her go now as she is.

Ok gotcha. I took my clones about 2 days ago, all is looking good no drooping whatsoever. I'll be super impressed if all 4 root. Your pics are looking GREAT, your a week ahead of me in flowering time, but in the end we will probably harvest about the same point. My strain is supposed to be a 7 1/2 week flowering strain. I'll take her to 8 1/2 maybe 9 who knows just gotta see what she looks like then.

Thanks for all of the positive comments there, appreciate it :-) I'll try to answer all the questions and post some more pics.

Firstly SirSmokesAlot :-)
1. I harvest around day 77 from germination or 11 weeks total, that includes a short 2 week veg and on average yield is around 1oz and a Q fully dry. Now I know I could do better ( longer veg/bigger pots/HPS etc etc....) BUT its more than enough to keep me smiling :-) Generally I pull just around 2.5 oz dry every 9 weeks, I have a small cabinet plus a smaller veg cabinet!

2. I dont really feed at all first 2 weeks then I feed Bio 'grow' for a couple of weeks then switch to the 'bloom' after first 2 weeks stretch period. 3 weeks from finish they get a single shot of Canna PK 13/14 booster.

3. I start LST soon as possible! Pull the main top down and then I remove that top and as side branching develops I pull them all 'out and down' if that makes sense?

4. Not sure about the '9 week process', its an 11 week process here. Bottom line is I have to contain them within my small (metre square) cabinet so I can't veg too long.

********************************

OK, pics were requested of the cab/CFL's so here you go plus a latest pic of the NL lady...shes at day 18 of 12/12 today and starting to explode with those pre flowers now :-) You can also see a little Hindu Kush I have in flower at 4 weeks 12/12.

Anything I have overlooked I'll answer later.

Cheers.

On Q-3 what is that - LST?

Thanks again for all the positive comments :-)

Re low stress training, its used to control the plants overall shape, the idea is to encourage all of the flowering tops to reach the same height to form an even canopy so that all of the buds get an equal amount of light as opposed to a single main cola. Its ideal for small cabinets and even better for CFL grows as you can keep most of the buds within 2 -3 " of the bulbs. My plant was topped once and LST'd and shes just 12" tall but bushy as you can see. Its a method well worth trying :-)
