Single Intake and Exhaust?

Ok, so after reading hours and hours of threads on different forums, I think I finally found something I like. Someone on this forum at some point talked about having a cool tube that had an open end. They used a fan and carbon filter to draw exhaust through the cool tube thus sucking out air from the grow box. They have one open hole near the bottom to suck in air (the negative pressure) and pulled the rest out through the cool tube and out through the carbon filter. Now, my question is, do u have the fan running 24/7 and just the light on the timer? I figure if that fan isn't on 24/7, then you'll need a seperate intake and exhaust. Do I just leave the cool tube exhaust fan on 24/7 and timer the light itself?? Gimme an answer and I start throwing my pics up in the "400 watt light forum!!!"

P.S. - size of cab is 2x3x5'1/2" !!!

Mikey I have a similar question, but I haven't got a response yet either…any luck on getting the answer yet?

Yes you can do that, If you have no temperature extremes to deal with. You still need a small fan blowing in there for air movement, right.

or you could do it the right way and have a dedicated exhaust system, not connected to the aircooled light ...

That way, your exhaust works according to the temperature and air exchange needs... and the aircooling fan can work with the lights...

independent systems will give you a far more stable environment...

like this... but keep in mind that very few ops actually need an intake blower...

Using independent ventilation systems allowed me to run a 600w HPS in a 36"wide x 20"deep x 60" tall homemade tent...

check...

Even when I decided to get a lil bigger... I still used the same independent ventilation system and had no issues with heat... EVER...

I got too hot pulling the air from the hot room through an open end in the hood. When I started pulling from outside the room, My temps went down allot. I was running a 600HPS in a 3x3 room. the temp of the air your cooling your light with keeps heating up in you leave an end open. You probably dont need much of an exhaust if you cool the lights right. Depending on the ambiant temp of wherever your room is. And you def can't do CO2 if you run like this..

To the above drawing, you could probably, or atleast possiblly skip on the intake blower and go passive, and most believe you should pull your air, not push(i.e. put that fan after the cooltubes.)

I believe the fans last longer if you run cool air through them... the fan is more efficient and the motor runs cooler... but I guess that would just be my personal preference...

and 99% of the time passive intake is perfect, but SOMETIMES it is required... and still taking care to maintain negative pressure on your area...
