What’s up everyone? I’m in the process of making sips. Do I need a bunch of aeration holes like the little ones I’m drilling in the picture ? I made one just like this with net cups and pvc and it came out great for an outdoor papaya (papaya fruit ) seedling
Probably don't "need" them, but they're not a bad idea. Roots end up growing through them, for what it's worth.

The important hole (ahem) is the one that drains from above the fill line so you don't accidentally oversaturate your medium.

Not mandatory, but they help oxygenate the root zone at the bottom of the pot
Thanks guys, gonna go ahead and copy them. Never seen a potted plant of mine grow as well as when I used my first sip

Filled the reservoirs for the last time today. One plant took most of a gallon after three days. The others took only a quart or so. The side branches are opening up. I'll harvest next weekend.

The colors are due to cold, I think. I need to control nighttime temps better.

I like the tight structure and light orange pistils on this one.

Winter SIP grow getting going with more Ace strains - Panama fem on the right and two Erdpurt regulars on the left. The one in front I haven't transplanted because I'm pretty sure it's a male, but giving it a few days to figure it out. The one in back is female.

Winter Growbox grow still going, little over a week into 12/12.

Panama:

Erdpurts - the one in front turned out to be female after all, I put it in a 3 liter pot to see how it does. I was gradually decreasing the light hours for a few weeks and both of them started flowering at around 14 hours on, so I think they're gonna remain small, which is fine with me:

These are in recycled soil amended with Espoma Bio-Tone and Tomato-Tone. I don't plan to do any top-dressing or additional fertilizing, just water in the res.

Happy SIPing y'all!

With the earthbox, bas suggests when running no till, to let the res run dry before refilling. I normally have to let it get a lil drier than that cuz it usually happens when I'm at work. I believe that's when the soil gets oxygenated, in the eb. Does that sound feasible?
My understanding is that the BAS-method of letting the res dry out before refilling is due to the BAS soil (either 3.0 or 1.0) having a lot of compost in it which tends to hold more water as apposed to peat based soils. The earth box website is very particular that the soil used is peat based. Great wicking and porous.
