Sitting water in bottom of bucket

Running a drip bucket hydro system, when Ive done bucket systems in the past I always had the drain on the bottom, but these pots the drain is an inch or so up and water collects and the roots sit in the water, it seems like it would lesson the oxygen the roots get, also cause water log and could cause root rot, and also their are a ton of Fruit flies in the buckets, they are fruit flies not Gnats. I would assume roots sitting in the water could cause loss of yield at the end, advice?

Look up "hempy bucket". Typically that area below the drain hole is filled with perlite and acts as a small rez. The perlite will help hold air sho the roots don't drown and most of that water will be wicked up before it starts to cause problems. Don't know about the fruit flies. Small cup of vinegar and they'll drown themselves.

I would think mosquito bits would be effective against your fruit flies. I would bet $ its fungus gnats.

No its not gnats, its fruit flies, I thought gnats when I first seen them but its fruit flies.

I would think the perlite would go right through the system and clog the pumps

How big is your hole? 3/8" is big enough to allow drainage but small enough to catch the perlite.
