Slow drying = more terpene évaporation

Sup guys,

i wanted to know if any of you ever noticed this.
If you cut a bud off the plant and let it dry for around 5 days in your house, it will often be smokable at that point. When you smoke that bud It will be harsh to the throat, but the first few puffs you will get an intense aroma/taste. Well i can never get that taste Back even after a Good cure. I mean, i will taste it but it will always be more faint. Kind of like a teasing cunt. Been growing for over 20 years and tried a few drying techniques including the paper bags.
This round i cut the plant and hung them upside down without trimming anything. Let them dry in my dark cold basement (60-65 degrees) with a dehumidifier and kept the RH between 68-63. 4 weeks later and most the taste is gone but super smooth smoke. And now no matter how much longer i will cure it, it won’t bring that powerful taste back.

my last test will be on my next run. I will cut/hang no trimming, and instead of waiting a few weeks at 68-63Rh, i will bring the rh down so that after 3 days i can feel the crisp on the outside of the bud and chop all the buds to start sweating the weed in sealed bags.
My theory is the longer the buds are exposed to the air no matter the temp/RH, the more terpenes are evaporated into the air.
What do you guys think? Im a crazy stoner? Lol

And your theory is strictly on your grow?
It’s better to have backing than theories

Im testing thing out so no need to congratulate me. Have you never picked a bud from your drying rack and one day it’s tasty and couple days later you see the difference?

Yes
But I dumped that particular pheno
I don’t keep b grade
I was just trying to help
I once had a guy tell me after running all his gear for years it all tasted the same
I asked him for four cuts and when I gave them back to him he discovered he had been harvesting to early for years
I’m sure you know what you are doing just an idea of my grow experiences

IMO I have noticed some similarities. Flowers on the plant seem to me to have strongest aroma and there is a lessening of the strength of that aroma as the plants are cut, dried and cured. But going completely away is something foreign to me.

Five days for how I dry is nit nearly enough time for the chlorophyl (and whatever other nasties to off gas or degrade to where the flowers even smell like they did in the tent. Rather they have that cut grass or hay smell. It's after those are gone that the "good" flavor of the weed is again the prevalent smell. I love trimming as it's maybe the closest to on the plant smell that the flowers have.

I could go on but to be brief I don't think you are crazy but I think your drying plan may be the problem. If I could offer a suggestion I would say that you might want to start with a higher rh and move it slowly down ending at your mid to low 60's?

Its always I can only speak for what I do and it seems to work great for me.

Best of luck to you sir.

Thx kerowacked but i have tried this already after 15 days but like i said, after like a week or so of drying, the taste is already starting to fade and no matter How much burping i can’t get the full flavour back. I will try after 3-5 days and see if im a conspiracy theorist or not

Best of luck to you grampah. And remember that when we say burping, it doesn’t mean we ate it lol
Lol thanks buddy, everything I grow gets made into concentrates, resins looking good, sugar leaves are sticky as fuck, just waiting for it to put on that final weight then off to the slaughterhouse
