I had a lot of probles with slugs early on because of the wet weather up here in Vermont. I tried salt, sand, and some copper...nothing worked. One day i got fed up and went to Lowes and bought some Ortho slug bait. Worked like a charm and killed all the little bastards =). The only problem now is theres a lot of flys eating the dead slugs...

Yeah broken up egg shells and glass are the best method then just make a little circle around the base of ur plant with it.
good luck

try putting copper wire or those copper pan scrubbers to clean you dishes. they open up to form a ring that can be streached around your pots or around the base of your plant. won't damage and slugs and snails won't craw over it. copper wire works good too. also egg shells. good luck.
