Small hydro box set up - too much wattage?

Hello All,

Hate to begin with such a newb question but im starting a very small hydro set up.

Its a wooden box sealed with reflective sheeting measuring 50cm wide X 176cm Long X 125 Deep. Im only looking at growing one plant and the blub i have is a 1000 watt Sylvania Metlarc M47R globe.

http://www.bulbamerica.com/osram-1000w-mh-1000w-mog-bt56-cl-metal-halide-bulb.html is the closest looking i have found to the one i have.

My question is, is this wattage to high for my small space? Could it possibly set a fire. After leaving it on for 30 minutes i measured inside temp to be 25 in its coolest spor at 30 in its highest. The globe is large and does sit close to the reflextive sheet.

maybe i should by a longer lighting system and run it across the roof of the tank?

Hope to hear some help soon, cheers all!

If my math is right, that sounds ok to me.

With such a long, narrow grow area, 2 400W lamps would be better than a single 1KW IMO

That's crazy how you got a 1k bulb to go 86F hottest in such a confined space... I mean you got a lot of space for height so that might explain it... If temps work go for it, but if you can squeeze one more plant and LST both of them in there, that would be best. B/c to be honest, using 1000w for one plant is a bit of a waste imo. And I just saw that your bulb is an MH bulb for veg I'm guessing? Should make sure you can switch out to HPS during flower, or add supplemental red light from CFLs. Good luck
