Small SOG Operation.

I'm looking at doing a small SOG setup to take advantage of a void in the local market and I'd like to get some opinions.

The Goal: Harvest 2-4oz.+ every two weeks.

The Flower Box: I'm going to use two Sterilite 105qt snap lid totes, one turned upside down on top of the other, as the grow box. I'll paint the walls white with plastidip. It's floor dimensions are 15"x27". I should be able to fit 18 18oz. party cups, that would break down to 16 to fit the two week schedule, or probably eight 1g nursery pots. Obviously, these won't be big plants. Probably 18-24" max.

Lighting and Vent: I'm going to use the $70 2x2 T5HO from HTG for the light because it puts out 110w and 10k lumens. It's 24"x12" (rounded) so it should put out all the light I need and if not I'll use a few 26w cfls. I'd use a 150w hps but I'm concerned about the heat and don't want to spend the extra money on ventilation just yet. For the ventilation I'm going to use a 40cfm computer fan. That should move all the air I need and will only cost $10. The scrubber will be DIY.

Once my dc adapters get here I'll be putting things together.

I ended up getting 31cfm 80mm fans for a few different things and I have a question. If I do an active intake with that fan at the top of the pots and the exhaust at the top of the box will I still need another fan inside for air movement or will that provide enough? I'm not too concerned about heat because these lamps don't get very hot it's mostly the air circulation because the strain I hope to use is developing a fat cola.

How do you plan to harvest every 2 weeks? Are you going to have a separate cab somewhere? If you're just doing it with the one light, I'm guessing you're not going to be putting them through a veg cycle? What about mother plants?

I wouldn't underestimate the heat from those lights, the T5's and CFL's have an operating temperature of about 95º. In an enclosed space you could expect temperatures to rise near that point, so ventilation will be important.

I'm not really sure what kind of power those fans have but try it out and see. If you need more oomph add to it.

Thanks for the reply. :)

1). I do plan on having a separate veg area with spiral cfls. This will just be for flowering. I'm planning on the full cycle being 12 weeks, two to clone/root, two to veg, and eight to flower. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep a mother or just keep taking clones of clones. I'm thinking they'll all be topped anyway so I might as well put the tops to use. The plant I have now at just under seven weeks flower should give me around 1/2-3/4oz dry and it spent most of its time under four 26w 2700k cfls. Better growing, etc. should give me a higher yield per plant.

2) This is the light I'm using http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=51907 I already have two in my tent that replaced all my cfls and my temp gun reads an average of 76f at the canopy with the lights 3" above. I expect this setup will hover in the low 80s.

3) I put one of the fans into my computer case because it needed a new one anyway and it pushes very well with minimal noise. I'm thinking they'll work well. I just don't know if I should go active with my intake or passive and hang the second fan inside for air circulation. The strain doesn't seem to be strongly fragrant unless you touch it and smell your fingers so I'm not concerned about odor.

The man speaks the truth.
I just finished my harvest and am done with my HPS for a few weeks.

I am vegging two Purple Punch and using 4 T5's HO 6400K and had the bright idea that since my hps is off and there is no smell from the plants at this point why not save some money and turn of my 4' centrafugal fan..

Checked them 18 hours later and its 100F in my closet & my RH is up to 65%:wall:

Fans back on trying to get back down to where it was 78F and 40%..

True. I've been growing with cfls since October so I do know how hot they get. I'm taking the heat into consideration, I'm just not that concerned about it. I'm more concerned about bud rot in the later weeks.
