Smell Change during/after harvest

Hey guys I'm pretty new here, but I had a question I had not seen before

Recently a friend of mine harvested, and the plants smelled amazing right before and during the chop.

Once hung up to dry though, they lost almost all of their great smell and now, at the beginning of curing, they smell stemmy for a lack of a better word. Or maybe the smell of sticks or something haha.

Did my friend not cut enough of the stems off before drying? Did he dry too long (only 3 days)? Anyone else experience this for any reason?

I'm confident they will still taste amazing and it was definitely a bountiful harvest but I like good smells! Could it be that my friend used bag seed? Any tips to get the smell back to normal?

The smell is never fantastic by the end of drying, cure it for a week or so and see if the smell has changed. Did the stems snap cleanly before you put the buds in jars? that can make a difference.

It happens all the time but is also a sign of drying to fast, try drying in a cooler place and 3 days is fine as long as you cure, I cure for a 2-3 weeks the wait is a bitch

If it dried to fast you can cure with a orange peel to regain moistness but remember to change the peel every day because the peel will start to rot and cause bud mold

From my limited experience, the smell comes back after about 2 weeks of proper curing
