i need some advise on smell control. i bought activated carbon for my first grow and it worked amazingly for like 3-4 days, then the smell came back. and for 10 dollars a bag/box at the pet store that seems highly unpractical. Is there a way to preserve the activated carbon?

oh and the way i used it was to just put it in front of my grow but it did work just not well.

Did you use a exahust fan? carbon filters work fo at least 6months even more. It sounds like you just had it sittin there bra.

You can only activate da carbon by using an intake/exhaust fan bra.

There are different grades of carbon. The carbon for water is differeent for carbon than air. The carbon for the water will work, but not as long and not nearly as well.

Placing carbon in an aread does not remove smell. You need the air to have .1 sec contact time with the carbon in order for it to be effective. So you will ulimately need a fan of some sort.

you need a fan dude. just havin it sittin there it wont work. As the pple said it needs contact with air bra. okay i just read ya first post again did you just buy carbon? Cause you need a filter n a fan bra. havin a bowl of carbon in da room wont get rid of odor. Carbon lasts at leasts 6months when used correctly. hence the word activated. just build da one chunk put up.

Actually, activated charcoal is activated charcoal. The different grades are due to the granular size. Smaller is better for odor control, but the smaller the granule, the harder it is for air to flow thru.
Activated charcoal can be re-activated by baking at 350-400 for 45 min to an hour.

Alright ima try and do some pc case fans but i need a little help getting all the stuff. most of the fans have like weird wires for them, (with like a little box and like stuff on the end)

an example of the wires:
DC 12V Case Cooler Cooling Fan for PC Computer New - eBay (item 280253599786 end time Aug-13-08 02:15:03 PDT)

What would that wire be called? cause my intentions are to put them in all my stealth grows and have all the wires go to a controller unit thats near my desk, just cause i think that would be pretty dope.

Oh and a second question how am i gunna power all this? what do you guys usually do?

Dude, just get a nice little 9v case fan that is in like every decent computer. You can pick them up at computer stores for like 10 bucks. To power it, just go to a second hand place like Value Village or a junk store and pick up a 9v adapter. Strip the wires, twist them together (positive to positive, negative to negative), and tape them together. Now you can just plug the fan into a standard outlet. I think most case fans are rated at 80CFM.

If you are not too comfortable with activated charcoal. May want to look into something like ona gel. In my setup I use can filter that can treat about 650 fpm with a hurricane fan that pulls 650 fpm. I keep a jar of ona gel and ona spray for emergency situations.
