So I had some bad luck with Barney Farm seeds

So I bought 10 strawberry cough, and 10 runtz muffins. Not a single one popped! so I have some fast masters also from Barney’s farm, I went ahead and decided to pop those they all popped and are doing well. I went ahead and ordered a five pack of master Kush from North Atlantic seed company. I’m going to go ahead and pop those as soon as they arrive, and add them into this grow as well. Anybody Else have any bad luck with some off strains from Barney’s farm. I don’t necessarily blame them I picked some strains that probably aren’t big sellers and I think the seeds may have been a little bit old. But all the freebies they sent me popped just none of the ones I actually wanted to did.

Don't pre-germ in a paper towel, plant direct to media, keep moist/not wet, and very important....keep them warm (80 deg, 24/7) and under a mild light 24/7. Not saying you are at fault, just saying it's unusual. Good luck!

I have never done Barney's but it does sound like old seeds.

Why not?

Did you buy them from a seed bank or the source? It's a guarantee that there are old seeds sitting around from most breeders at various seed banks. I never had an issue with Barneys Farm seeds germinating the couple of times I grew them.

I don't understand why all outfits don't date their packages like ACE Seeds does. But they seem to be the only ones that do.

Possibly. But I have a hard time believing an industry with the highest ethical standards would knowingly do something like that.

I got them from attitude which is why I think they where old seeds also they where just real small they didn’t look like the best quality

And also the other seeds I popped where from Barney’s farm also, and I didn’t have a single issue. I popped several fast masters and a few Pinapple expresses. they all popped and are doing great so far. I’m not knocking Barney’s farm at all. I usually get a lot of stuff from them. I just think the seeds I bought where old and not of very good quality. Attitude deals with so many banks and other seed sources it wouldn’t be hard for some not so popular seeds to be sitting around for a long stretch of time I know don’t do the paper towel method but it works for me and that’s how I do it I’ve done the seed to jiffy pellets and I have about the same turn out also temps are 77-79 degrees and around 65-68 percent humidity while popping after they pop they’re under a 650 rspec hlg light at about forty percent on the dimmer switch running the light about 28” off the top of the solo cups room temps are 80-81 degrees and 63-65% humidity they are breaking the top of the soil about 24 - 36 hours after I plant them

Barneys farm seeds suck. On par with crap king

When you have old seed maybe a seed pop tea soak may help the reduced hormones. Take a bunch of beans( I use Blue Ridge beans also a trap plant for aphids but thats a different subject) spout in a cup of water for a couple days blend then strain into a cup of rain water soak seeds for 24 hours then into a inculated soil. Maybe that will help.

Exactly. This will germinate even the most stubborn seeds. Even if it takes 2 weeks.

I germinate my seeds by placing them in a warm moist paper towel placed inside of a ziploc baggie in a germination station with a heat mat set at 84°. I've tried the direct into substrate with piss poor results compared to what I do now.

Do you use tap water or RO?

I was originally taught this method (substitute the plastic bag for folded foil) however I have had much better results with rockwool, RO water, and a heat mat under a dome with just a bit of water on the bottom. Six in one, half dozen in the other I suppose. Sorry you had some bad luck.

Tell them what you told us and they will likely replace them. I have never used Attitude so I can't say, but I have had seeds replaced that failed. Especially if you order often and they know you aren't trying to get free beans.

disagree, if I have to wait more than a week for germination on a breeder pack I expect my money back. If I’m paying $10-$25/seed I expect 100% germ rate and quickly, if mfs ain’t pop in 72hrs from drop I’m sending a polite but clearly annoyed email, a week then its Phone calls and cussing. Obviously this doesn’t apply to trades, freebies, testers or gifts. If the homie hooks it up with beans from fire I try my best to make it work but when money goes down it’s with the expectation of return.

I do the same, but I just stick them on top of my file server.

I’ve got refunds/replacements on bad seeds a few times, so yeah it does, I get good germ rates doing the soak, then towel. If popping in the dirt works for you cool, it’s still slower and has a higher fail rate than standard protocol.
