So I split my girl in two while LST - duck taped and ready to go??

Hello everyone,

This morning while tying her down some more I noticed a small crack at the top of the branch (please note I topped her so the main stalk ends flat) and then it started to open and open so I ran as fast as I could grabbed the duck tape and close the gap at the top of the main stalk, I would say it got about half inch in. As shown in my masterpiece drawing...that is what happen as I was tying her down. I wrapped some duck tape beneath the two branches to pull them together and then some more hemp string at the top of the branches to pull them more together so now the gap looks closed about 90%. She's at the end of the second week of flowering today. Transition is over and she's starting to open up at the top showing some bud already. Think she'll be ok? Is the duck tape going to cause any harm on her? Please if someone has any insight or tips please let me know. Thanks for your time guys.

I hear ya Chris. The only other time something like this happen to me was when a fan landed on top of one of my girls and split the main stalk down the middle all the way down to the last node! Took off about 3 main branches and a lot of fan leaves. She turned herm of course as you can imagine. She made it all the way to the end but with a shit load of seeds. Stash still lasted me a month though, what wasn't full of seeds was pretty fire.

it should heal fine, and don't worry about the tape...just take it off in a week or so, and just leave the branches tied together...just make sure to remove any leaves or stems bits that die...that way you aren't harboring bud rot...

missnu is right, she will be fine, you basically grafted her back to herself one she heals. No harm although this too has happened to me a long time ago I used hemp to fix it and freaked out aswell ha but the plant ended up healing itself.

Missnu thanks for the reply, as always a great help. I'll keep my eye on it and take the tape off in a week or so. Just hope she doesn't stress too much over this. Good thing I caught it in time as it was happening, if I would have not seen it and closed the tent for the day she would have been open like that and probably keep tearing for the next 12 hours. The two branches that are directly on that tear seem to be ok, everything is perky and strong so I hope they'll be ok.

Thanks for the input wristy, maybe even it caused a reaction like super-cropping and it makes the stalk stronger at that point. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger right? :)

try to support both sides up trying to close the wound i would get rid of the duct tape and get some sticks or what ever even string tieing both sides of the plant together it should be ok i have split my stalk in half only to tie it together monitoring the broken half of plant it healed

yeah man, just keep an eye on it when those branches start to get HEAVY if ya know what I mean :)
I have a feeling she will! She's a Big Bud from Sensi Seeds, the original. It suppose to have been back-crossed with the original Afghani so the results should be impressive (in yield at least). Haven't found too many good reviews or journals though. She seems really healthy and vigorous, only strange part is that she never showed sex. Her tops are opening and I can see the white hairs starting to emerge from the tops, but not sex in the nodes, there's just nothing there, so far i'm pretty sure she's a female...we'll see by the end of next week for sure.

I'll leave the duck tape on for a day or two, just seems what is really holding her together at the top right now. I left the LST ties so she's still wanting to open up near the top so the tape is really holding her together well at the nodes at the bottom. But I really don't want to keep it there long. I'll take it off in a day or two depending on how she's looking at the opening. See example:

Did the same exact thing with a hindu kush from sensi.
didnt phase it one bit. Healed up fine.

did a bit of what lightning said.

used some of my tie down, and pulled the 2 off branches closer together until it healed.

Thanks for the reply vilify, about Sensi how was your results with the Hindu Kush? So far I've heard all good things from this breeder, stable genetics for one. Would you agree?

Yup as long as you placed it back in its place it will heal i ripped my stalk litterally 1/2 of plant was on the side i ripped i was like omfn god i just tied it back into place monitored leafs next few days from broken side for any droopyness and it just bounced back np

very stable, no hermies (other than a lighting mistake) even when pushed pretty hard.
believe i got a 10 pack, 8 popped, 3 males, 2 unwanted female pheno's, 3 VERY similar, if not the same, phenos. matched almost exact in plant structure and yield.

and hindu was supposed to be a low yielder, didnt buy it for the yield. but was consistently toward the top of my list when it came to yield.
extremely happy with the results I had.

will be purchasing another pack of it down the road for some breeding. have a pack of skunk #1 from sensi ATM waiting to be cracked.

Yeah one of mine was topped and ripped down the middle like that. Itll be fine just tape it up and leave it be for a week or two. Mine is grew fine. Just stressed some.

Thanks for the input guys, really calms down the nerves about my situation. I really was pushing her too hard with the LST, she bend totally horizontal and the last node at the top couldn't take the bend and it split the main stalk in two! She looks sick though, tops went from 10 to 20+ after the LST. If she survives (which I think she will and then some) it'll be a lesson to learn, don't bend her too hard/far at the top of a topped stalk (trying saying that 3 times fast).
