So let's get this started

Mugan have you flowered under your 80 dollars worth of CFL yet though? Because the plants need much more lumens in flower then veg.. Atleast 5000 lumens a sq ft is good.. that would take 2-4 200 watts of cfls for busteds grow space .. which would cost more then a 400 watt hps.. now lets say that you use 2 .. of the 200 watt cfl's.. thats 400 watts of power consumption and only 16,000 lumens. Now at 400 watts of hps.. you get 55,000 Lumens. No comparison.

2-4 depending on veg size.. but plant numbers really dont matter.. your yeild will be similiar with 2 plants vegged a little longer as it would be with 4 small plants.. mostly its the light available that determines yield.. just make sure all 2x2 ft are filled with canopy when you switch to flower.. and you will get a good yield for whatever lights your running.. Plant count is not that important.. just a filled canopy in the grow space is ..

That's some pretty great advice, thanks a ton! I'll definitely keep that in mind. Should save me some seeds too, since they were expensive... I bought THC bomb from Marijuana-seeds.nl

I have another question - what kind of soil and nutrients do you guys recommend? I'm trying to keep this on the cheap side but I also want to make sure my plants are healthy.

Busted .. its gonna be awful hard to grow with cfl or HPS in a closet where the room temp is already 80-90 degrees. Any kind of light is gonna add 4-10 degrees to your closet.. Most people agree that 70s- low 80s is where you want your temps. As for soil I use a mix of Fox Farms Ocean Forest... Fox Farms Happy Frog .. and Perlite.. its not cheap ..and im sure there is people on here who can give you comparable soil with a home recipe. But with the soil combo I use.. my plants stay really green in veg.. even on the ones I never fed nutes.. But in flower you will def need to feed. Also back to the heat thing.. maybe look for some strains that grow well in heat .. atleast for the summer months.

Oh nonono, I was only saying that 90 is the PEAK it would reach, but it will normally be more around 75-80, and I always have a ceiling fan going which helps a lot. I'll be planting in July if all goes well.

And as for soil, does it really make a big difference if I use Fox Farms or could I just pick up potting soil from like an A&P and have decent or good enough results?

And what kind of nutrients do I need? Can I just pick up a generic brand at A&P as well? Or do I need to use something specific

Whats A&P.. like a hardware store? I know there is certain soils people use from hardware stores ect that work .. but I have no experience with them.. same things with nutes... someone else would have to chime in on that.

A&P is a grocery store but they also have gardening supplies. I think I'll just walk down to one and check out what they have and then take a trip to the hardware store and see what they have. I need planters and potting soil for my salvia anyway. What size pots should I grab for planting/growing my bud? Can they stay in a 3-5gal bucket the whole time? Or do they need to be put in something small to start out and then transplanted to a larger one as they need room?

I usually use 1 ft of height to every gallon of pot.. so 3 ft plants 3 gallon pots.. and so on.. I normally start small like a Beer cup.. or small Square pot.. till they are 8 -12 inches. Its really hard to water if you put a tiny little plant in a 5 gallon pot from the start. I really dont know much about other soils.. but I would wait till some other guys chime in or do a google search.. because if you get the wrong soil with slow release fertilizers or anything .. its gonna be a headache..

Lots of other people on this forum are more resourceful at using common products to grow... im kinda spoiled because im in So cal and there is a Hydro shop every other block.

Alright so I'm just gonna buy some singles cups or something for now and I'll pick up bigger pots as I need them.

And I'll just wait on the soil/nutes until I get some more informed replies

Fox Farms Ocean Forest is the best for plants in my opinion .started in small cup, after germinating in paper towel , put in ffof ina one gallon pot , do not furtlize for at least 3 weeks the soil has all the nuts it needs. when you watter you can add a very small amount of molasses may be 1 tea spoon per gallon of water alos check your ph then work your way up to 1 full table spoon per gallon . you can also add powder bakers coco 1/4 tea to the water it alos helpsfeed the plant. the molasses has to be unsulfated , the best. good luck any other questions .just ask skit27

You think they should go straight into the pots after germinating? No paper cups? Also, I only have 2 gallon pots. The less pots I have to use, the better. I don't want to have to buy another bag of soil... I'd prefer to put them straight from cups to 2 gallon pots. That should be fine, yes?

And I ordered Flora Nova Grow and Flora Nova Bloom for my nutes... should be arriving any day now. I've heard very good things about them.
