So who here is growing in true organic living soil?

Anyone ever used BTI dunks in a worm bin? Is this advisable? If not, what would I use to put the brakes on fungus gnats?

I believe that my worm bin does not allow them to enter.

You need to filter the air exchange.

Just a thought.

Keep piling on diatomaceous earth---if it gets wet ....repeat

--and use those yellow sticky traps all over
....let them sit in the top of your pots and hang them on every wall


If you have a nice fluffy mix you can put on a layer of sand to make it harder on them

.......what effect do 'air boxes' (vents) have on a negative pressure (sealed) room....?

if you have experience with these or know what im talking about---built in on the floor in the framing vents/boxes

for our listening audience

Can you post a link, im not sure what you are asking, air balance is a science all its own.
If you are trying to keep your room in a positive i would use a true variable speed drive , one that hunts up and down to maintain maybe 2 cfm or cubit feet per minute per square foot.
Goodman makes a nice one that anyone can buy online, theres no warranty for parts , [dont believe what they tell you] but they run well and you can find parts online.
I hope this is what you are looking for, if not i can try again.

true variable allows the machine to determine the output....instead of running 'uphill'----closed/sealed--negative

no i build air boxes into the walls of a 'sealed' room to allow the air to balance itself naturally....

--usually a 12-16"high 'box' built into the wall @the bottom with inside/outside vents connected to balance the air and equalize the room pressure so the machine doesnt take up all the drag--

Hey Buck, i was looking into this a bit more and found this, discard the flue and just think air in its place.
You could actually get a manometer and set each one up so they are air ballanced so long as your inlet air flow remains the same.

an air box built basically at the bottom of the wall ....balanced on mayb 2walls...to equalize the flow.....will give you the same thing


all the scientific tech stuff confuses me.....i just know how to do it


i usually frame a box into the walls at around 12-16" high and mayb 2-3' long along the wall plates....with a 24-26" vent on the inside....with a filter.....then i make a vent on the outside built into the 16" framing ....usually 2- that have vents on the outside of the wall.....


this equalizes air pressure within the room and balances air flow.....
-giving your 'machine' its full benefit and not stressing it or giving it a half life.....


i find the ambient air pressure helps a lot to control the inside of the room also-




This has always worked well for me but the manometer and barometric thingy you referred to are beyond me-


like i said the tech stuf is not my thing.....i just wanted to throw that out to you and see what you'd say about it-

i like to think when i have built rooms i can cool it with an ice cube and heat it with a candle....
