So You Want A Hydro Shop?

I am a industrial product designer with 17 years experience designing disability assistance systems. I have been into hydro systems for 7 years now as an amateur veggie grower and weed 3 years now.

I have been working on an aero system which I believe can be made here for less locally and fills a definite gap in the market. Realistically I feel there is another 12-18 months of work ahead of me.

I don't think you need China for this but perhaps for others. Besides it would be nice to get "made in Britain" going again. Unfortunately looking overseas only weakens the long term position in favour of the short term margin.

My apologies if I seem condescending, I am not trying to be, I just have argued this point for a decade or so to hundreds of clients and employers.

Touching on bespoke systems, this is a huge market waiting to be be investigated further. I don't know of anyone producing these systems on a large scale. But this requires a large initial investment for stock to put them together.

My ideal job would be going into peoples homes and designing and installing custom indoor hydro grow rooms adequate for full family sustainability. I'd even like to extend that to aquaponics...go the whole hog.....sigh:-)

yes, all the time. and if you took the idea to china, i bet you could pump out decent systems for next to nothing.
also secret grow boxes, pc cases up to wardrobes. and make a huge profit. make them to the customers specs to. thats what grow shops need.im sure there are tonnes of students who would pay for you to customise a box for them.

yeah once you start thinking about it your doomed lol. like when you first look into growing. it soon becomes an addiction lol. keep it up.
Ha, I plan to! It is addicting. I have 2 Autos, 4 regular plants and a clone going now and I'm already planning what to grow next! And don't get me started on seed buying!

its good that there is so much variety though, keeps you interested, always wanting to try new strains or growing methods. and im sure everyone has countless drawings of their "next grow room" lol

^^^^So true! This grow is really showing me that at the very leat, I need a bigger system in my Flower Area! My Laidies in Waiting are going to be a bit crowded. I will be getting a large sum of money from my Grandmother on Mother's Day. She just loves that I have 4 children and stay home to raise them, ^^^^So I get a "reward" every Mother's Day. Think I'll be buying a HydroFarm Mega Garden for Flowering!
