Soil or Coco?

Out of our 3 seeds, all sprouted nice and healthy.

what I use now is promix-coco mix 50-50 no ph pen that don't work half the time'i use strickly rain water plants explode

Thanks for that bravedave! Looks good! Would you say that it's cheaper than coco? I'm looking to save on this since it's my first grow and all. Really just trying to apply the knowledge of reading up on it the last year or 2 to the actual growing. The KISS method seems perfect for this experience, can it be used the same way you'd use it in coco since it's soilless?

Does that make a fairly airy mix similar to coco/perlite? Sounds promising though! I've read 50/50 things on the pens, but didn't realize they had drops until MickFoster said something about them. I don't doubt the rain water, if it makes everything else thrive naturally then it's going to make an indoor plant do that haha, assuming you grow indoors that is!

I have not priced or used the CoCo but I certainly think it costs slightly more than Promix. I have not read your version of the KISS but the watering and the feeding are going to be similar. I think either will work for you and I think they are both better to start with than soil mainly because you DO have to add nutes and thus gain a little experience there.

I add additional perlite to the Promix to get the good drainage.

Ok I'll certainly look into promix, the coco I was looking at is about $20 for a 10lb brick, not sure if it's worth it though. I'd have to go back and read it to give you the exact amount of Maxibloom it uses, but in coco it's more than the 6/9. Very true! That's all I'm really looking for is the experience, that way I can play with all the different mediums at a later date and know what to expect nutrient wise. Plus, having the knowledge of a medium while I play with the others certainly wouldn't hurt while I grow my knockout medicine haha.
 
I like both. In soil you water less often and don't have to feed for the first few weeks. In coco plants have the potential to grow faster (due to increased aeration?), do not need as large as pots and are pest resistant(except fungus gnats). Hand watering I prefer soil, and I like coco for drippers or ebb/flow or some form of automation. It sounds like you want to try coco, so that's what I would recommend. I have never tried pro-mix but have seen/tasted nice flowers grown from it.

I've got coco, how would you setup an automated watering system? Sounds complicated
 
i prefer promix to coco - in promix you don't need to ph or worry about the coco retaining and not releasing your cal/mag
 
I used to use GHE FloraMicro & FloraBloom with modified Lucas formula (h3ad's 6/9), but didn't feel like messing with pH meters any longer so I changed to Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect Sensi Coco nutrients, never have to adjust or measure pH again.

I'm going to be using tropf blumats. I'm pretty new myself and have only done soil in fabric pots and dwc with coco medium. I'm switching to a gravity drip system drain to waste because I'm trying to eliminate some timers and pumps while keeping the advantage of hydro and not having to water every day (coco can be fed 3 times when lights on?). If you want easy grab a watering can sure its great and you get to know your plants better, I just can't always be there to water it on time.

I'm not 100% on why they grow faster, but I believe the aeration does play a good part of it. The hand watering part for coco won't be a huge hassle for me, I'll get to spend time with my girls that way at least haha. I'll probably go coco first, then my next batch try the pro, it sounds good so I'll make it a priority to test both and see what they're like! Good to know it makes some tasty buds!
