Soil PH won't go down?

Hey everyone!
Quick question here...

I Transplanted my almost 2 month old plant from a 2-3 gal to a 5 gal.
Yesterday, I flushed it maybe 3-5 times in 3 hours of time with ph'd water at 5.5-6.0, and the runoff still comes out at 7.0-7.1!

It was 1:30 am and I said fuck it I'm too tired to go on...

I'm using Promix soil with perlite, added a tablespoon of epsom salt and calcium in the mix...

I didn't had problem with my other pots, and of course I understand that since the pot is bigger it needs more water, but I litteraly flushed it for 3 hours, with not a single drop of the ph runoff.

So what should I do? Just keep watering and feeding next time with adjusted ph to 6? Or should I try and flush again until the runoff of the soil gets to 6.5?

Hi there,

Are your plants showing any signs of a PH problem???
Did you flush the plant in the old pot first? Or just transplant and flush in the new medium?
Do you know the PH of the run off from your old pot and medium??

Piccie??

Sounds like Pro Mix has some serious buffer agents in it . . . . .

I had problem with my plants, I used by mistake a feeding chart of an hydro, so i had sone nute burn and other deficiencies, i guess you cann still find my old post for picture

Plant is getting better and someone told me my pots were too small.

I did have ph problem being too high, but after flushing i could maintain 6.5-6.6 ph of runoff so it was perfect and it was about a month ago

Yesterday I wanted to feed after transplant but watered instead to see the ph runoff and for 3 hours i pourred 5.5-6.0 ph'd water, runoff still at 7

you realize that any nutrients in the soil are being washed out right?
Yes, but if the soil ph won't drop plant will have a harder time taking up nutes, and I fed her at the two last watering, so I could just foliar spray her one time soon just so she have something.

But I really need to drop that soil ph.

So just lime will be enough?

If you need the nutrients, flushing the soil is washing away nutrients and the lime that stabilizes the soil when watered/fed which may bring you even more problems if you aren't on top of it! Also, lime will bring the pH up! Not down. Im not really sure what you are trying to do? What is the run-off when fed nutrients? Are you feeding synthetic nutes? If you dont want to use ph up/down or grow organically then you need to figure out the runoff ph when fed. If it is within 5.8-6.5 my bet is you will be fine and do not need any buffers in the soil. It will end up back at 7 when the water dries. The soil ph comes out high on purpose so when you feed the pH drops and raises as it dries.

As I said, in the other pots when I fed her the runoff ph was 6.5

Now I transplanted it and I want the runoff to be 6.5 so the plant get the best out of the nute, but the runoff stays at 7.0-7.1

I feed with the general hydroponic flora series, and i have ph up and down from GH too.
I always ph my water at 6.0-6.5 and the runoff came 6.5

But yesterday even with 3 hours of pouring 5.5 ph'd water to get the runoff to 6.5 the ph stayed at 7.1

So what should i do from now? Just keep regular feed/water and ph'd and let the soil ph drop with time or keep flushing to get the soil ph drop?

The soil ph will take a long time to drop, especially if you're 5.5 in is coming out at 7+. Make a test pot, water it with full strength nutes, and adjust the soil buffer from there. Peat moss retains water, the more water retained, the longer it takes the pH to raise. If you have full strength feeding run-offs at 7+ then mix in some peat moss in the top 4-8" of soil till the run-off starts to get closer to 6.5.

Do you know the EC of your run off ??

Was around 240 ppm when i checked yesterday after the final flush, normaly when I feed i give 400-600 ppm, comess out at 1200 ppm in the runoff but I heard the ppm of the runoff is useless?

Thanks for the reply!
Will look into that :)

It's a good indicator ime . . . .

If one has a problem, flushes through a load of measured water (Ph and EC), one can certainly get an idea if the soil is too hot or not . . . . . with the results of the measured run off . . .

Though hey, we all have our ways and wims dude eh :)

your soil is ph ed. which means thats how its suppose to be and you gotta eat the booty like groocies

Thats why I'm trying to look everywhere for answer, theres so many diversities and opinions it's driving me crazy!

Since you know it's usefull, how do you know there's too much ppm in the runoff?

Ok . . . so I visit quite a few lil grows here and there that I'm asked to, and I'm asked often, what do I do next? They wanna know whether to feed or water . . . . (First is always keep a schedule)

So, I'll water it anyway for them, but to get run off, if the EC is above 1.0 and it's had a balanced feed all it's life, the job is done, and he/she can safely water it again . . . .

If I water it and it comes out under 0.5EC, we'll make up a feed and run it straight through, straight after, what we'll call, the mini flush that just happened to get liquid for a reading . . . . .

PH is taken too, and adjusted . . . . . .

Wow, pretty logical when you think about it.
But like you said everyone have their own way, and I'm at my first grow so it's hard going a strait line.

So, I do have a schedule, I feed my plant 2 times then plain water for the 3rd time.

So I'll keep my routine and keep an eye on the runoff ppm...

And if like Vless said, that my soil is ph'd, won't it cause problem with my feeding? Or as long as the water I give is ph'd it's gonna be fine, even if the runoff is always at 7?

Good soil is incredible, I agree with @Vless, though not PH'd but buffered to around what ever it is, just because run off is 7.0 doesn't mean what remains in there will be at 7 . . . .biology does crazy things around the rhizosphere . . . . ;)

I'd be feeding and watering twice . . . . . . (But hang on, I do not know the EC of your feed, so I shouldn't comment on schedules)
