Soil Recipe Help

What’s sup guys, in need of a little help. So a few months back I caught the organic bug. I was tired of using bottled nutrients as they tend to add up pretty quickly. I’ll admit that I did not do nearly as much reading or research as I should before I started down this road. Long story short I sourced some promix and came up with the mix below.

30 gallons of promix
Jobe’s AP (4-4-4) @ 1oz/gal (840g)
Epsoma blood meal (12-0-0) @ 1oz/gal (840g)
Epsoma bone meal (4-12-0) @ 1oz/gal (840g)
Epsoma alfalfa meal (2-0-2) @ 7.5grams/gal (225g)
8 lbs of earth worm castings
Black Kow manure @ 1oz/gal (840g)

I had my doubts about it being way too hot with N and got a lot of feedback confirming it. Kind of got discouraged about the extra money I need to put out and decided to just stay with bottle nutrients for the simplicity.

With that said I’m back trying to make another attempt at this. I never discarded the soil and I didn’t water it to “activate” it. I could really use some advice on this mix I came up with. My goal is to try and amend the above formula to make it more suitable for plants in veg into flower. It would be a waste to throw away the nutrients I already added but if I can’t what other choice do I have?

To the above stated 30 gallons I was thinking of adding…
15 or so gallons worth of perlite
5 more gallons of promix
5 teaspoons of powdered humic acid
5 tablespoons of Azomite
10 tablespoons of dolomite lime
7.5 tablespoons of epsom salt
30oz of rock phosphate
100 tablespoons of Happy Frog Cavern Culture (1-12-0)

I am hoping that adding more mix will help. Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

Read this, anyone will tell you it’s the most popular soil recipe right now.. that doesn’t mean it’s the best, but it works. Called coots mix, I’ll give you the link but I add….

Crustacean Meal - For chitin and such, quite beneficial

WHOLE malted marley flour, you want it whole and grind it up yourself or it slowly looses its potency. This help with enzymes and such, honestly there’s many people here who know a lot more than I.

Make sure you use quality compost and/or EWC. I suggest using pots no smaller than 15g, Insuggest 20g+ (I use a 4x4 bed, first time, but if it works well I plan on expanding.

Looks into the organics section, there’s a sticky called notill revisited… READ IT. That’s the spot, the people in that thread are the tribe you’re looking for. I’m the noob there TBH, the ppl are great.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll definitely look into that mix. And they’re going in 7-10 gallon pots. Still indoor for the time being.

The place I get Azomite from suggests 1-2 tbsp per gal of soil, you may be a little light on that. I use the powder not the pellets.

Water it and cook it,your first mix is fine.To simplify it mix 1 cup of your 444 to 5 gallon promix.water and cook. This can be your light mix.So clones small plants,as you up pot mix your first mix with the light mix.Its all good.

Thanks for the input. Was worrying it wasn’t good enough to get through flower.

Youll always have to top dress, part of the deal, easy to do and youll have awesome plants.Only way to go water only is really big pots.
Ok cool thanks for the info! How often do you top dress your girls? and with what? Should I opt for the 10g over the 7g pots? They'll be smart pots. I like the fact that I can run them through the wash after each grow and reuse them. And having a bigger pot means longer in veg correct? How long do you guys recommend vegging if I do go with the 10 gallon pots?
