Oh yes, I'm learning that very well now that I've finished some plants. My plants genetics (Nirvana Aurora Indica) lend itself to a main cola and a few high branch nugs, it's a thick plant. I am starting clones this week and am going to attempt to LST them in netpots planted in my Hydrogardens, it's the only way for me to improve yield, my plants can't be more than 1.5 meters high.

Low stress training improves yield too? I've never used the method and I'm new to this but I thought LST simply made your plant "smaller" and closer to the ground (more out of sight)

Or does the change in position of the plant give it light in more areas?

im not going to add much to conversation except that all the cup competion is grown in soil and they have a choice

This is very true. Chemdog himself speaks on it in the 2010 June issue of HT. Also there is a video from GreenHouse Seeds I believe about Arjan's Haze with Arjan himself and Neville i believe with the actual haze that won that years cup and discuss why they use soil in competition grows. Several local growers have a makeshift underground canna cup around here and all the connoisseur crops are soil grown....interesting
