As I read this article, I couldn't help but think... man, is shit really this bad in the world now?! If this woman's commander really told her that she, needs to "put her kids in foster care" while she deploys... well, that's just plain wrong.

I can't feel too sorry for this woman. She knew what she was getting into when she enlisted. She chose to enlist, she chose to have a kid. She was free to make those choices. She is not free to choose not to be deployed. She should've thought about this before she decided to enlist or have children. It's unfortunate but everyone who joins up knows that deployment is possible and you better have made plans for your kids in the event this happens. If you aren't willing to accept the consequences don't join or get the hell out.

i don't feel sorry for this woman at all. i'm not even going to begin to rant about this one... i'd send her to prison. that's right. PRISON. there's plenty of dudes that have gone to war that have kids.

So she has no relatives or a baby daddy who will care for this child. No friends or anything? I find this hard to believe. I don't even know why this is a story. She needs to get her priorities in order. She might get lucky and they may discharge her but it won't be an honorable discharge. If she's unlucky she will be thrown in the stockade and then given a dishonorable discharge. Either way she's screwed. She needs to think about what her future will look like with a dishonorable discharge and how that will affect her ability to provide for her child. Women have wanted equal treatment in the military for years. Now that they are almost there this woman is asking for special treatment. :roll:

after reading the story she had made plans with her mother,but her mother was unable to do it...I wouldn't want to put my kid in foster care either...Just let her stay and send one of the people who think she should go who never served this country at all.....

I second this. New mothers should not be separated from their child, period. It ends up fucking up the child. Deployment can wait. Bonding with the newborn child can't.

agreed medicine man...... a childs well being is far more important than this "war?" we are fighting. our govt. should not let mothers of newborns join for this reason, women in the military is a good thing but they should not enlist a new mom, and definetly not deploy her to another country to fight a war we shouldnt be fighting. we need to rethink who we are backing in this "war", the afghan govt is part of the problem, it is nothing like our "war" with Iraq.
looks like the military is having somew issues finding recruits. i saw yesterday that 75% of the youth nowadays couldnt join if they wanted to due to criminal records and obesity and so on. wow! a nation without eligable soldiers, man we are in for it. imagine for a moment what repercusions this could bring.... scary! The Draft? fight for us or go to jail? or worse an invasion. now imagine a nation that all would fight and give their lives for, thats where we need to be.

oh shoot, I'm in the politics section again........... I'm out of here!

Then why did she enlist? If she enlisted before becoming pregnant, why did she have the kid? If she is against abortion, why didn't she assume she was going to get deployed and make arrangements as soon as she found out she was pregnant?

If they let her do this, then there is a precedent for single women to make easy money by joining the military - just have a kid!

now she's trying to get out of it
if they allow this then people will be coming out of the wood works with stories on why they cant go or why they need to come back If they let her do this, then there is a precedent for single women to make easy money by joining the military - just have a kid!
women would be getting pregnate all overseas just to come home
no one wants to go - but she had no problem spending that $$

if you think that's bad, imagine what will it be like for her if and when she gets out. our vets don't have it that good at all man
