Soldiers Co Op Outdoor thread

Trying to decide if I want to grow in smart pots or in ground. My grow area is a 5 min drive from the farm. I predict a very dry summer, and with the possibility of me being seen tending the crop, I do not want to be hauling water all the time. Was thinking the smart pots would dry out fast.. and it may be a better idea for me to plant in ground?
 
Smart pots Imo need water daily. You can use wine bottles, 2 liter Jugs with wholes, or Blumats make some that attach to bottles to do a dripper, might buy ya a few days between watering, but I would.imagine if guerilla growing is the goal, in ground probably easier and safer

Fuckin a man! putting that work in, no worries on the handyman skills. I am far from a carpenter but still manage to get shit built. And from my experience, its better to do it yourself, even if its not perfect, have pride in the job, learn from it, and move on verse counting on someone / paying someone else to do.

Im curious to see the hives completed. Are they pretty low maintenance or do you need to clean the dead bees out every so often, and check on them a lot? Are you going with a swarm, or a nucleus?

Also, what breed of pig you going with? I went with the kune kunes, but next time will go with durocs or hampsire. If you want lard, kunes are great. HELLLA fatty. For meat though, we want something more lean.
 
Finally Got the amendments into the 200s, and mixed up nicely.

1# each
Feather meal -
Humic Acid
Glacier Dust
Kelp Meal
Bone meal
Blood meal
Bat Guano



Should be a good strong mix, water / Tea only. Will dump all the clover equally into the 6 200s, then fill the rest the way with compost / earthworm castings. Will be a busy busy days ahead.
 
I feel the same way! Great to see a project completed that you built and saved a good chunk of change on.

There is a small animal sale on May 8th and I know there will be a few different breeds of pigs there.. not sure what I'm going with yet.. good to know about the kune kunes. I'll definitely go with another breed.

I just ordered 200 giant Cornish cross chicks, they will be here on May 27th.
