Solution to Smart Pot issue

Plus you can cram the fabric pots together to fit. I can do six, 2 gallon or eight, 1 gallon. Hard side pots won't fit on my shelf. Well they will, but it's twice as less pots in the same space.

You must have been doing something wrong. Im glad plastic is working for you but honestlty ive used both side by side with the same strains and sp out performed the plastic by far. Sp ftw!!

yeah, I was using smart pots, I just love the way the fabric holds on to the salts. Probably why roots won't grow all the way to the edge.

Yea they do hold on to salts but i use drip clean and that seems to help. Also when i made the switch to coco i started feeding til runoff everytime and that really helped reduce buildup.

Salts if you are growing with chemical nutrients.
People still used bottled nutes Yikes..

I use bottled nutes for convenience, but I haven't noticed any salt buildup on my fabric pots.
Btw, every grower uses chemical nutrients, it's what nutrients are made of. So are you, you ugly bag of mostly water (star tek quote for the humor impaired).

Get the smart pots... You can water around the edges and level it out.
You don't even have to fill up the whole smart pot. You can add too it as the root mass is building too, covering up the stem and it will form roots once covered.
These are 2plants in a small 2 gallon pot, that will yeild min 2 zips per plant.

Right, because all plant need the chemical H20, And yes, Nitrogen is nitrogen, potassium is etc... the plant gets them delivered in the same formI use bottled nutes for convenience, but I haven't noticed any salt buildup on my fabric pots.

"SMART POTS" are not.. I tested the fuckers for the first release.....Not impressed at all. Nor did they use anything I feed back to them..
Dries out too fast.
Root Ball forms a very dense, almost round shaped core that gets so thick/dense. That you "waste" by too much run through to get the damn root ball damp. It simply rolls off the core and out the sides and bottom.....That's called the "umbrella effect".
I run water only organic soils that I build...they waste for that way to much too. I mean, I want the roots to fill my container and use the whole available area. Bigger roots, bigger buds and bigger yields...
I got so frustrated with the special needs of "Smart pots" and watering. I watered the hell out of one to be harvested. Chopped and hung the plant. Removed the root ball and cut the thing in half........Guess what? The fucking root ball was so dense that the center of the root ball and whatever soil that was there.....Was bone dry! It couldn't pull moisture in there. That sucks Blazer.....
"If" I were to go back to any hydro style....RDWC or DWC.....Far less work and worry then Coco with it's retention issues and need for extra Ca...Hell, you save on using less nutrients in RWDC and it's the fasted method I've tried..
There are counter points to yours, you'll get more of them and from others too.

I got better results growing in my compost bag ...lol
like Doc Who above I'm in organic soils
with ACT and compost extract when lazy ..lol
'I suppose one could pour salts directly onto the plant base
and 99% would eventually float out ...lol
with minimum damage to the plant ...lol

I use milk crates under them in veg. I have several I have cut in half for lower heights. But I happen to have lots of them, lol.
So far I am liking the pots, on my second grow with them.
Veg both times has been off the charts, usually go 6 weeks in veg, had to flip before 5. But I also changed to making my own soil and using blumats at the same time.
Now you have me curious. Perhaps next go I'll go back to a couple in plastic. Compare with the same soil and environment.
