solve a debate about lights on plants

okay so my friend john and i were discussing about light's in my room...he say's that i should have my reflector with my light above my plants for best result's...i on the other hand say that it should sit in the middle of the room low and my plants around the light at a far distance like you would with any light...here are the spec' and pic's i have 2X1000w and about 14 plants.temp humdity all good. so which is better keeping my lights low sruonded by plants, or put my reflector back on above the plants?

frist two are of my veg room(with reflcot above the plants)second is the bloom room(plants around the light)

i dont have very much experience but i would say that its better to have the light with out the reflector, because if the plants surround the light .. and the light its say half way from the bottom to the top. then the majority of the plant would be receiving light as opposed to only the tops.

well the setup looks good, but you have lots of room... i think you need more bulbs.

bulbs for what room be more pisific. i have two more 1000s coming for my bloom room when i drop the next one's in. should get about 80 or so plants in there. and putting in another 400 in the veg room so i'll always have clones going into the bloom room at 40 to 50 per kick....

nope me and a few of my friend are in on this grow... they pay for nute' and all the other shit and i grow. it give's us 3 oz each every couple of month's. just enough

in my opinion i would add 2-6 CFL bulbs into both room.

total newbie here, so i will put my flame suit on ready.

with your reflector on the light is being directed too your plants. any light that trys too reach for the sky is bounced back and not wasted. wasted light = wasted cash.

without reflector your light is thrown everywhere. in my eyes you are wasting a lotta light that could be reflected back down too the plants. the wasted light is not directed towards any plant and is wasted lighting up anything above the plants.

im a noobie, only grown sticks in my window and they never made it too flowering. but everything i have read seen in forum uses reflectors for a reason. you dont waste cash lighting parts of the room that dont need being illuminated. reflectors allow you too direct light too only one place THE PLANTS. i would say your friend is right

I'd say reflector on as explained above, you will waste valuable lumen's.

2-6 CFLs in a room with 1000W HPS? Wouldn't even notice.


I like the lighting. Overhead for the littluns. And surrounded by buds.

Solution- you want the light with reflector above your plants...you'll want to get some mirrors and put the mirrors at least on 2 sides. I use those mirrored closet doors, I pulled them off and layed them sideways reflecting at the sides of my plants. Light reflection is key, mirrors and keep the light and reflector above. the mirrors will do for you what your second pics show WITH the light above, best of both worlds! let me know what happens!

put removerball reflective walls in there to bounce light back in to the huddle of plantd snf on the floor u still loose light no matter where u have the bulb just try to re use it (iv been thinking of useing loasd of shit and blank cd's to reflect light back)
iv got foil on floor and behind my plants (not fully boxed in)
