hrems are great for a small scale breeder. harvest some of the pollen from it put it in a film canister with silica beeds(those little packs found in shooe boxes) and pollinate a lower bud 3-4 weeks into flower. presto fem seeds that combine genetics from both parents. while some here will say herms make hermi seeds and thats true not all of the seeds will be prone to herming.

in most cases it takes stress to bring out hermi traits

Okay, so this is why I am interested in keeping it alive. Long enough to harvest some pollin.

I have two questions:

1. How long will the pollin last in the film canaster?

2. How do I pollinate a lower bud w/o infecting the intire room??? won't the fans just blow it around???

I'm have to say I would be a bit worried about this. Can anyone link a video to this thread with harvesting pollin and pollinating one or two buds. Thanks. It's certinly worth +Rep!!!

That was my question too..I wonder if you spread pollen to a calyx on purpose will it pollenate others? I would say yes, since it can travel via air current and it doesn't take much to move 25 microns. I have personally seen bananas on random buds (most likely a stress issue), bananas on single branches (that don't effect other branches or plants) and zero bananas with colas containing seeds. People suggest using panty hose to contain airborne pollen, I would double that up and seclude a branch. So it doesn't spread yet allowing it to breathe. I have also read on here that pollen can be stored for a year or two, dry and cool like a bean and still be viable..

Really? I heard they come back with venegence when you do that. I'm just worried about touching them and then entering my house.
yeah i have done it a few times successfully. like i said intricate and time consuming though. you gotta get em before they open to prevent pollen on your clothes.

when seeding its all about genetics u want 2 stress all your plants and find the one that dont hermie, that one is pure female,(no hermie traits) good for cloning or seeding but a male hermie is a different story, i wish i never used mine 2 make seeds because now i cant trust them id say save a little and test it out but if you do it again try and get a good male. hermie is a trait, but it is ushally caused by lighting stress or air flow/heat problems. plants have immune systems of some sort
