Some seedlings not growing true leaves, stalled at cotyledons

Hey all!

This isn't my first grow, but this is the first time I've started seedlings in rockwool, and the first time I've tried growing feminized genetics. All seeds were started the same way I've always successfully started seeds using the paper towel method and then directly into the rockwool cubes. The cubes were soaked in PH 5.8 water with a drop of superthrive and 0.5ml of hydroguard. Temps stay in the high 70s low 80s with a RH of 60-70%. Light is a 600w Viparspectra LED about 3 feet away. They are all about 5 days since sprout.

Here are all 6 seedlings:

As you can see, the first three rows are coming up very stunted. The AK and the MK both are showing no signs of developing true leaves, although the SuperSkunk on the left is starting to develop them.

Here are some closeups:

Master Kush

Super Skunk

Any ideas?

I am sorry I do not have an answer for you but I have had the same problem in potting mix to many times in a row lately.

And from seeds I trust and have had excellent results with for 2 years of perpetual growing.

I have a theory. Old seeds. Where are your seeds from?

They're from Nirvana, who I've had excellent luck with for quite a few grows now.

I think I would get some CFLs or t5s about 6 inches from those plants. I don't like using a very strong light to start plants, its very easy to either burn them or make them stretch, if you move it far enough away to not burn them.

The LED is on veg mode, so only half power, which would be around 110 watts over 3 feet away. It is about equal light to a T5 or two 6" away.

It is also the exact same light and distance I've used for a half dozen grows with no problems whatsoever.

I forgot to mention that with some patience and making sure they are happy with the light intensity and moisture as said above and all of my weird leafless in the beginning seedlings grew leaves and progressed fine with about a 2 week delay. The first leaves stayed a bit deformed.

My 2¢ ....

I soak cubes in 5.5 ph water for 15 minutes ...
Shake off excess water ... Plant seed inside.

Seeds will germ with Warmth ( heat mat )

No additives or other crap . The seed will provide enough food for itself . I NEVER dunk the seedling , just a misting. That might be where it went south for you. You can cause a damp off condition with over saturation and constrict the new taproot by suffocating it.

6 days since the OP gave an update on any changes to the seedling. I'm curious if they changed any. If not, I think they are history.

Two of the seedlings have started growing true leaves, although they are very deformed. We'll see if they straighten themselves out in a week or two.

The third one is on the verge of creating true leaves.

I am having the same issue now. Did you figure it out. I have grown many times and never had this issue. It does seem to be aged seeds since they took a long time to germinate. I am thinking that could be a large part of my issue.

I started having this issue and I can tell they are aged seeds. Took forever to pop and then all of them that made it to their 1st 2 leaves and then stopped.

I seem to have the same issue with some Barney’s Purple Punch seedlings that I got from a dodgy shop in Ireland when I was there. Took ages to sprout, then sprouted, a few died after that, one is all mutated like it’s topped itself with deformed first leaves, the other is stuck in the cotyledon stage and it’s been over two weeks. Lighting and environment is all auto controlled with ideal VPD so I know it is bad seeds, probably either old seeds or poorly stored from that dodgy Irish store

Then what? Did they die?
Yup they all died 1 by 1. I told the seed bank and they gave me credit for some new ones. I went with Double Solo Burger and Gas Bugnes "Fem". I am some what happy with the Burgers although the flower time says 53 - 84 days or + - 67 days. Well every pheno went over 84 days. I even started counting from the day they showed ex, not whe. I went down to 12/12. Zero percent chance any of those phenos could be ready for harvest on day 53. The Gas Bugnes I am completely bummed about. I hate Feminized seeds. Just like the "Fems"I have had in the past full of hermies. I popped half the pack to pheno hunt and only 1 Female, the rest hermies. Only reason I went with them is Gas Bugnes is (Apple Fritter × Larry OG) and I love them both plus they ga e me a discount on them. I originally was going with TK Reunion (Triangle Kush × So Cal Reunion). I really wish I declined the discount and went with my original order. I went to California Seedbanks website and did reviews on both strains. I wondered why there had been so few reviews. Turns out they screen their reviews and only post the positive ones. My reviews never showed up. Shady business practices. I will never go through another seedbank. The best strains I have grown have been bag seed and gifted from buddies.

i grow ONLY fem seeds and never have a problem with hermies...i would suggest you examine the conditions in your growing area...there is some kind of stress causing that to happen, or else you're buying from the worst breeder ever.
i usually go through the Vault, Canuck seeds, Seedsman, or Pev...no problems from any of them, and pev has one of the nicest phenos of GG4 i've ever seen

First time I tried was Seed Junkies LA Kush Cake and when I looked into it there were many people having issues with it. This time I got it from Skunkhouse Genetics. The seedbank is friende with the person and says they do "rigorous testing" and havent had any issues. There is no problem with the environment. I have plenty of fans, I have an online fan continuously recycling the air. Only hermies I have ever had are from those 2 kinds. I keep hearing that stress can cause it. All I did was top them. If that is all the stress it needs to hermie then I guess I will just stick with regs like.i normally do.

chief, i dunno what to tell you, i top, lst, tie down, lollipop, forget to water now and then... :dunce: ..., and never have more than the very very occasional nanner pop up. i won't tell you it never happens, but i will tell you it's less than one in 12 or 15 plants that get any at all, and those are generally early in flower and easily dealt with if you're keeping up with things
