Someone Gave Me A Bag of Bud and I Have NO Clue What to Do With It ....

Long story short .... A gardening mentor friend has a large piece of property on which she grows all manner of things green. Her elderly husband developed glaucoma so (hearing that THC was commonly used by those suffering), she thought she would try her hand at growing a few plants on her property. He didn't respond we'll to it.

Was out there recently helping her clear some brush. She offered a rather large ziplock bag full of bud, leaf, stems, etc. as a 'token' (pun intended) of appreciation as it was of no use to her or her DH. I asked her what strain, where she acquired the seeds, but she was pretty much clueless. So now I have this bag full and no clue if it is smokeable. If I posted a few pics would y'all mind schooling this newbie on the what and how, etc. ? I haven't smoked in 17 years but I'll be damned if I will let this gift go to waste.

Many Thanks.

Looks like your standard first grow op, the smokable bits are the buds at the end of the stem, not the leaves, pretty much anything that isn't a leaf or stem should be smokable. Is it dry?

She did say the plant was about 7 ft tall at harvest. It looks to me like she just pulled the whole plant apart then hung it all up to dry - stalk, leaf, bud, n' all. It was grown outdoors in great soil, moderate sun. She had to move the plants early on from their original spot as they were too close to the road, very obvious to a passerby if they knew what they were looking for.

Yes, very dry. Almost crunchy. From what I remember, way back in the day, you wanted the bud to be a bit sticky, no ? There isn't much odour to this either. I also remember the bud the ex used to grow as being more compact. There is obvious crystal on some of the larger stalks. Not huge amounts, but some. I was going to clean it up a bit, find out if it was smokeable, then give some to a some family friends who's baby just graduated from highschool. They partake on a regular basis so I thought this might make a nice gift.

Yeah, it should be more compact, that's normally what you'd get with stuff you bought in a shop, but my first couple of grows came out very similar, with buds spaced pretty far apart, so I'd mark that up to inexperience. That doesn't mean it's bad bud, the stuff I grew got me high, just a little unusual. Same thing with the texture, ideally it should be a little sticky, but if the cure or dry wasn't done correctly it could alter the outcome of the bud. But again, it doesn't mean it's bad, my shit was dryer than the queens vagina, still got me high.

So I'd suggest just pick some bits away from the stem, try not to get any leaves, pack that in a bowl and take a couple hits and see how you feel, after 17 years, you should be sky high in t minus 5-10!

This thread just made me smile. :-)

I'm just imagining the couple with their gigantic plant, and no idea what to do with it. Quite a sweet story, really. Then, the thought of someone who hasn't smoked in 17 years getting baked from that herb is like the cherry on top!

Of course, now you'll have to give us a smoke report!
