Hi Everyone; i'm needing some help and advice designing my grow room. I plan on growing in the room directly above my dining room where my family will be eating thanksgiving dinner. My Media Room is connected to my grow room through a small hatch(picture below) I have 160FT of 16" studs to cover with insulation & drywall. I have 30-40FT of 24" ceiling studs to cover.

My plan was to buy regular insulation, and two layers of regular drywall to and apply GreenGlue between them.(http://www.greengluecompany.com/).

Any recommendations for GREAT sound deadening drywall and/or insulation?

grab you some of the 4'x8' insulation board it has reflective stuff on one side thatll work great and maybe a osb plywood for the roof then the insullation foam and if it was me id put me a vent that i can open and close off that ac system itll help keep temps and humidity down (itll come in handy during flowering), and a air scrubber for exit exhuast if you dont want smell leaving the area , as for sound deading they have that spray foam that would help and put rubber between any fans where they sit or hung thatll get that vibration noise or you can go with those vertical fans their pretty quiet

let me kno if you want any more useless ideas im full of em'

Did it break your wallet? Did you have to take a telephone call to get it special ordered?

To do it successfully; i'll need around 150 sq. foot of wall space covered. What's that gonna cost me?

LOL, No, it ain't cheap....
$120 per 4'x8' sheet,
and my local Drywall supplier carries it,
if ya get it from the soarce it's bout $20 cheaper, but shipping costs for the size.....

Find a Drywall supplier, they should carrie it, it's about the only drywall out there to sound proof successfully at 1/2" or 5/8" or 1" thick, and it's also got 1 hour flame rating too, bonus for a grow!.....

For sound a R value of 11 to 13 is pretty standard, anything higher is kind of excessive but higher is better. I would just take a look at the existing insulation, figure out the R rating (it will be labeled on one side of the batt) and fill in the rest of the empty bays with the same. That looks like Certainteed brand to me. If you need to insulate the floor, use a rigid foam insulation if you can't get the in between floor with batts. Again go for 11+ on the R rating (I believe 3 inch rigid foam insulation would be OK). 1 layer of sheet rock will be good, if you wanted to save some money you could even cover it all with 6mil plastic or black and white poly, just use a staple hammer and staple it to the studs. If you are putting 2 layers of sheet rock to get a 2 hour fire rating then things get a little tricky because of firestop.
