Sour diesel

I have a question about sour diesel .. is it supposed to literally smell sour or like diesel fuel or exhaust? Just harvested what was supposed to be karma's bx3, and while I can't place it, the smell is warmish and rich and a little sweet, sort of like when you squeeze a bag of coffee (smells amazing, just not "sour" or "diesel"). The structure looked like pictures I've seen of sowwah but wondering if that's how it's supposed to smell, or if maybe the beans (which I bought open) weren't legit?
It depends who you ask.

Imo, and in my experience; 99% of ppl have it wrong.....the stuff that I consider to be real deal sour I've only smoked 3 times in my life and I'm right next to NYC.

What I consider real sour is bright ass green and fluffy nugs; smells SOUR as hell....this stuff tastes like a lemon-lime sour patch kid turned up 2000 notches.....no fuel or gas at all...the high is trippy as fuck....all colors seem brighter....shitll have a seasoned smoker thinking they're tripping balls

All the fuel talk; that's the ECSD, not the original Sour.

And I'd take what I consider real sour over literally everything.

Again; I've only smoked it 3 times....once in 06....once in 09....and once in 2018 which confirmed to me its not extinct....never knew anyone pushing it or nothing....only got smoked out by random ppl that were friends of a friend and they never had weight of it....never found where they got it or nothing.

It's not common as fuck like all these "sour diesels" that have 0 or little sour flavor and are mostly fuel; those can be found everywhere

And yet if you ask the guys who made it originally it had no lemon to it at all. They say it’s all super skunky and chem

You mean the guys who don't know what the genetics of it are because it was accidentally made?

They get credit for making it; but can't agree amongst themselves what it is and even have different versions of it amongst themselves.

AJs sour and JJs sour are not the same.

I was just saying what I consider to be it; which stands out above all sours I've smoked in YEARS of smoking nothing but haze and sour....there's sour....then there's THAT sour.....they may get credit for creating it mistakenly; but who really knows??

If what they call sour is sour....then whatever I smoked is even better. That's all I kmow.

isnt it widely accepted to be Chem x Super Skunk? whos cut being legit being a separate argument?
That's the Albany Diesel, which some say is sour, but after growing it more it tastes exactly like opening a can of tennis balls with skunk on top.

I have had that real sour once, and it is exactly as @GWilliamsCannabis describes. It is that Sour Patch kid kind of flavor and not real gassy diesel. And the buds are bright green. Very potent.

The Chem91, Chem D, Albany Diesel and ECSD are not it. I have all these cuts currently. The ECSD I got from Shoreline Genetics is totally bad ass gassy AF but still not that same mouth puckering sour I remember from 06.

its not that your beans arent legit, its that the pheno of sour that most people covet is a rare gem. Its not super easy to replicate. Theres a reason most people hunting it search for clones over seed, and as you can see even those are debated

This is truly no lie!...I have tried many many seed lines of sour D...never found anything close...tried many of the circulating clones...they are not it either...the Hunt continues!

karma sour is nothing good in my experience.

you guys saying that original sour diesel isnt fuelly are a little off. why would they have named something diesel if it wasnt fuelly?! cmon.. i have the original sour and shoreline ecsd.. they are different in many ways but the original is definitely fuelly.

Like I said in my post; if what I consider the original sour and legit sour - isn't it.....then it's fucking way better than sour diesel....whatever it was.

Also the time periods I smoked it....first time I ever ran across it was 2006....then again in 2009....then again in 2017-18....but ONLY once each time.....didn't taste diesely; but either does somas nycd....at least originally it didnt; it literally had a red grapefruit flavor.....and many ppl here and elsewhere consider that to be the sour d; even though it isn't it.

What I smoked gave a high comparable to most sour diesels.....except it was way more fucking potent.....the taste was full on SOUR...with a hint of lemon/lime....but 99.9% of the flavor was just sour as fuck; straight up lip puckering uncontrollably....had no gas or fuel flavor at all.....very trippy high....like what gets described by old timers that smoke Thai stick back in the day.

i got the original cut around 06 and alot can change in 20 years. but i always remember the first s diesel to be diesl fuelly. pine on the dry toke. very powerful. the closest thing ive found today is chem fuego and it will take my original sd spot.

Chem fuego is definitely fire...I bought an oz a few months back and shit was so good....I remember original diesel being fuel and gas for sure....and ecsd is definitely gas....and I know cuts of sd that are gas/fuel....I feel like original sour d had to be made into seed form or crossed to make a seed line; which explains so many cuts that are close but not it....those cuts I feel are different phenos from the seedline....so in a way they're all sour d....that would be my opinion....but the one I described earlier was either the best or 2nd best shit I've ever smoked....other sours don't rank that highly for me; I prefer haze tbh....but if I wasn't smoking haze; I was smoking sour years ago....i wish I could go back to those days

Grew up smoking whatever we could afford. I don't get the obsession with skunks and diesels. is it the effect or aroma you're after?

Telling me these GMO, MB15 and Chem crosses can't hit the same effects and aromas? some people seem too stubborn to move on to modern lines to find the same desired effects
everyone is chasing whatever was around when they were younger. Its the same reason theres a nostalgia for food and culture in general from the 90's, the 90's babies are adults now lol

I guess it depends on which of these you believe

1) The weed really was stronger in the 80's, 90's, and early 2000's
2) People build a tolerance over 20-30 years
3) Bland genetics
4) The DEA exterminated all the good weed
5) No one was competent enough after 2007 to breed anything worthwhile
6) Arjan

Edit: this would make a good poll I think. "Why does our weed suck nowadays?" Added a couple more just for fun lol
