Dulles, VA 20July 2011) -- Orbital Sciences Corporation (NYSE: ORB) announced today that theDawn interplanetary spacecraft,which the company designed and built for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory(JPL), has successfully completed rendezvous and achieved orbit around thesolar system’s second most massive asteroid, Vesta. These events took placeafter a nearly four-year, 1.7 billion-mile journey to Vesta, which resides inthe main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Being "defunded." It's really a no-brainer that the funds are not going to be made available when they just cut a grossly overbloated program and are focusing R&D towards things mentioned in the two articles. The point I am trying to make here is that it has been mentioned that goal of a new manned space program would be to reach the asteroid belt. So while the budget is "being defunded by 12%" they actually just cut dead weight and are going full-bore into a new era of development.

ATK Conducts Third Successful Test of Next-Generation Solid Rocket Motor

Initial test data indicate the motor performed as designed, producing approximately 3.6 million pounds of thrust, or 22 million horsepower, and burning for just over two minutes.
