Speedwobbles

So, my bro just got a new skatey the other day - cadialliac 78mm wheels, swiss bones bearings, 159mm trucks, not sure bout the board but its a sweet set-up

so yeah, we do a fair bit of downhill skating, mostly street surfing, manuals, not too much board tricks and stuff. usually we drive round find a nice long road going down a hill, park at the top, skate down and trudge back up.

so we did a few decent hills yesterday, probably clocked 45Km/h ... and just before i got to the bottom, got some damn speed wobbles and hit the bitumen hard. grazed up my elbows, knees, fucked up my hands pretty bad, my shoulder and hip are pretty bruised. Luckily my head was ok :)

so yeah, today still feeling pretty sore we went out find some nicer hills (tightened up my trucks so i wouldnt get the wobbles so bad) and second hill we tried which was a mammoth (i bailed, my bro went hard) my bro comes off RIGHT AT THE BOTTOM, chewed up his arms and legs real bad, big gash in his elbow.

so yeah... not really such a big story, but just thought id suggest those that skate to never discount safety gear... we haven't worn any safety gear for the 13 years of skating we've done - but are definetley thinking about it now... gravel rash fucking hurts :(

god bless mary-jane getting us through the pain.

EDIT- oh yeah, im trying to get some photos uploaded... they are on my phone but my phone is oldskool and hard to transfer to the computer

Man that sucks, but like you said you got maryjane I applaud you just for going back out to the hills with cut and bruises and shit sounds pretty bad!
Sound like you guys have fun with them skateboards my little brother skateboards but he's more of the tricks, ramps, and halfpipe type of thing. Recently he broke his hand going up something, not really sure what he was doing. But hang in there you'll be on them hills again in no time!

Oh yeah invest in some safety gear, it'll might save your life one day!

Peace out Hermes!

like hermes said
we need to get some safty gear and heres how i know why
its 3 in the morning, im super tired but cant sleep for pain and discomfort, and im smoking bongs which i dont normally do, to try and take my mind off my gash in my arm, two skinned palms, hip and leg.
next time im wearing jeans, and leather gloves.
if you want some diabolcal cruzin wheels for you skaty Cadillac wheels..., GET SOME!
the worst part about beeing injured is the time off the board.

Hell yeah hermes, bombing hills is the shit... i personally hit up hills on my long board... but shits awesome!

pssh... safety pads are for pussies! all you need is some green, and number of shots... hahah. J/k.

you should give a longboard a try man, they're some fun shit.

(I also have this dirt board, with 5 inch wheels, you need to strap in with bindings, and that thing can get 10+ feet off jumps... you wanna talk about some painful road rash lol!

oh yeh... with the speed wobbles, regular boards arent great for carving streets, thats why a long board is sick, cus of the stability... tightening the trucks might actually make the wobbles worse...

I have these trucks on one board that are reversed, (check out your board, they're setup completely backward) this allows better carving and better cornering....

(I can't talk up long boards enough, they're so fucking fun. I got a barfoot, i'm thinking about picking up a sector 9 cosmic or platinum. Whooo!)

dude dirt boarding is fun as shit, but the trucks are so stiff that you gotta turn like you would on a snowboard, by leaning your whole body... gets kinda sketchy when you're landing and have no stability haha.

hell yeah, long boards are the shit.

used to have 2 long boards, one got stolen the other one never quite got rebuilt after many years of carving. at the moment am rebuilding my decks with what equipment i have (which isnt much) so all i got is a hand-me-down deck with cheapo trucks, china bones bearings and some 72mm soft wheels. still is hell sweet, but a long board it aint.

will be buying a new long board deck in the next few weeks.

i used to think safety gear was for pussies too, even after afew bad spills. but id much prefer to be able to get up after a 60kmh crash and still have my skin on my body. that way i get to ride the hill again and not have to limp home to disinfect the areas that used to have skin.

so if safety gear is still for pussies, id much rather be a pussy and carve all day long, then sit in pain for a week waiting for my skin to grow back so i can move enough to go skating again.

yeh man, i agree, road rash can fuck your day! I always just wear some pants, and if its not too hot, long sleeves... my issue with pads was always that they were too binding when trying to skate... pants and long sleeves protect against actual cuts, but they do nothing for broken bones or preventing bruising...

even still... i think i'd still forgo the pads... just a personal preference.

Also if you're getting a new board... the new sector 9's are awesome, also i'll look up those trucks, cus they make such a huge difference in carving, its like a real wave, they are dope!

yo thats watsup though. we do that here and call it Bombing Hills. We use skateboards and longboards though. it doesnt really matter. last yr 3 of my friends got hit by cars and i ATE it on this steep hill called Mt. Vernon. But my point was when those wobbles come just try and get real low and centered on your board, man.

Mt Vernon... you from the east coast bud?

Yeh man bombing hills is the shit, me and my friends used to get drunk and do that shit until like 4am... not so smart in hindsight, but the fun things rarely are :hump:.
