Their votes mean something.
They can vote for a lot of things.
It was foolhearted to think that Congress would allow the people of the federal district to vote as legal something congress has voted as illegal.
They get to choose a variety of things . But they don't have the clout of a state to overrule congress.
so who's constitution were the folks in dc trying to ammend?
are you even remotely aware of what you have to do to change a constitution?

These are both good points. Pot is illegal on the federal so DC is screwed, they don't have the same standing as states.
So how do they change that? Serious question..

They'd have to become a state.
The problem with that is I think it's impossible for them to become a state.
The people there can vote with their feet and move.

Well, no, they are represented on the federal level and they are trying to make a change on the federal level.
Yeah... I guess move is the easiest solution. It's a shame they can't make it happen though.
Becoming a state is not an option for DC, being absolved into a state might be, but I don't think they really want that.
is that how they got to their 68%? with their feet?
a VERY dangerous precedence is about to be set:
the reversal of the will of the people..
this gives carte blanche to your governor to do the same should he "deem" same.
and i don't give a rats ass about the state v. district bullshit!

Aint gonna happen in the states, which is why in DC the politicians can do whatever they want, there won't be any repercussions because no one in DC gets to vote for anyone in Congress. DC has no representation in Congress. The Constitution grants congress EXCLUSIVE jurisdiction over DC.
Since popular vote is not used in federal matters, only on a state level, all federal matters are the jurisdiction of the 3 branches of government.
The Constitution lays all of this out, its a short read.
So in short: Your governor can't do shit, because on a state level, the people have the power and can vote him out or even have him impeached. Get enough pitchforks and torches together and almost anything can be done.

In DC, it IS a congressional DICTATORSHIP. As set forth in the US constitution:
"The Congress shall have Power To… exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States… (The U.S. Constitution, Article I, Section 8, Clause 17)"

why not just tell the blacks they don't fucking rate and they're 2nd class citizens?
EDIT: congress has a stick up their asses because it might ruin the landscape while they're sitting in gridlock traffic in their limo..the horrendous weed dealers shooting it right up in the streets! the unsavory, have-nots and they smell, too..why should poor senator be subjected on his way to the sitting of his official portrait for his legacy that is taxpayers supported?

Read the bill, its only 1600 pages, I'm sure your Congress critter read it , right?

and they use such simple language and never make references to entirely different sections of law.
I laugh at the gobbledygook these lawyers have concocted so that only those with an inside track really know whats going on.
She specialized in Bankruptcy law and actually understands what the bill has done, the other congress critters just have others tell them that its no big deal and that they should just sign it. At the lower levels of politics, you just do as you're told.
