Sprouting sideways & General help

So this is my first grow and I think I may have been a little arrogant getting into this thinking I knew more than enough after reading a few books and researching online. However, I seem to be having a slight problem and I was wondering if anyone can give me some information on how normal this is, if there is something I need to do, or just let it correct itself.

The problem is that my plants seem to be sprouting sideways on a few of them and also curling a little bit. I've tried to provide as many pictures as possible and details about my grow.

Starains:Tngerine Dream, Strawberry Cough, Prozac, and Blueberry

Light: 1000wHID. Currently at 2 1/2 Feet above top of plants. Temp under light is about 79-82 degrees. When I place my hand underneath the light next to the top of the plant it is a comfortable temp, not too hot at all.

Soil: Fox Farms Ocean Potting Soil

Pots: 3' Jiffy Pots (Started with Jiffy Pellets)

Humidity: Currently 30-34 (Has been around the low to mid 40's.)

Water: Used Tap water, but made sure PH was ok before using.

Other: (1) Medium sized fan on middle speed that is 4 feet above top of plants

I started by soaking the seeds in water for 24 hours. I then moved the seeds into the Jiffy Pellets. Some seeds showed a white tap root once I removed them from water and placed them into the pellets. I used the regular Jiffy Pellet tray, top on, and on a heating mat then placed it into a cupboard. The temp was around 80-85 degrees. I think my mistakes was not removing them from the pellets and germenating too long. They were in the tray for about 72 hours. Half the seeds sprouted and it took about 28 hours for all but 3 of the 27 total seeds to sprout. Once I took the tray off I noticed some were laying sideways. I took the tray off, flipped the light on and let the pellets under the light for about 20 hours. I then took the pellets, filled the pot with soil, placed the pellets in the pots, and then covered them with soil. I lowered the light to 2 1/2 feet. I also watered the plants and later checked them with a moisture meter to make sure they had been given an adaquate amount of water. So I don't know if it was the tap water being used, light height, low humidity, IMG_20111221_003916.jpgIMG_20111221_004111.jpgIMG_20111221_004101.jpgIMG_20111221_004007.jpgIMG_20111221_003952.jpgIMG_20111221_003939.jpgIMG_20111221_004052.jpgIMG_20111221_003932.jpgIMG_20111221_003904.jpgIMG_20111221_003855.jpgIMG_20111221_004043.jpgIMG_20111221_003845.jpgIMG_20111221_003837.jpgIMG_20111221_003824.jpgIMG_20111219_131117.jpgIMG_20111221_004126.jpggermenating for too long, or what. I just want to make sure this isn't a big problem and that my plants are still doing OK.

I've tried researching and looking everywhere, but I guess I'm just not finding what I'm looking for. I've tried providing every detail possible for help with this. I understand there are other threads about this and trust me I've thuroughly read them and looked for more, but I guess I just want assurance and guidance on my plants from someone who knows a lot more than me. I appreciate any and all replies.

Just to eliminate one thing........I wouldnt be concerned about the way you germinated them. Lighting issue I would think. Pic #13 two of them look like twins how they are reaching unless you arranged them like that....just a thought, as for troubleshooting in general with anything start with the very basics.

seedling don't need Hid light to start...cfl's or flurs work great to start them( and can be closer to avoid the stretching)...once they get there true leaves and have grown a bit and are stable plants then they go under the hid

HMMM...they look ok but as you know pretty darn stretched. If it were my grow, I would probably get some cfl's or fluoro tubes and loose the 1000w for a couple of weeks. Then you could put the light source a lot closer. Seedlings don't need 1000w anyway. I would also bury the stems in some more soil and put a toothpick on them and stand them up straight. Good Luck to you and +rep for taking the leap into farming.

Alright so I need to put them down a little deeper. Are the Jiffy pots I'm using ok, or should I switch to something different or taller?

Thanks again for the help and tips from everyone.
