Whoa i just moved the temp sensor and its already up to 98 deg! 
Sprouts falling over. what to do?

they dont look dat bad..u made it sound worse..they will be fine...good luck..and dont overwater them..

Ok, I removed the box from below the tray and the light is 15" from the top of the sprouts. This brought the temp back down to about 85 deg.

Damn 98! Way too hot, move the light up another foot and check the temps again. Try to find a distance that doesnt let the plants get over 85. I try to keep mine under 80. 98 degrees will kill a seedling

I got the temp to 85 with the light about 15" off the top of them. Should I move it up more? Maybe I need another fan instead?

Its best lower as long as temps are under control, try adding another fan first. 85 is much better than 98, still not quite ideal though. If you dont get around 80 with an extra fan move the light up a little more

I actually put up a sign in my room to remind my stupid/stubborn self.
I spritz the soil 4 or 5 times and the leaves once every other day and it is growing really well. I was so obsessed with watering I killed my first 2 rounds of seedlings.
A cup of water is the equivalent of giving a new born a gallon of milk a day instead of letting her breast-feed... Your baby gonna be D-E-D.

I've stopped watering them the last two days. I think they're starting to come through nice now. I'm about to go check on them for the first time this morning now.

Damn, they keep falling over! I had to carefully prop two of them back up by mounding a little dirt up around the base of the stem. Am I still experiencing problems from over watering? Will it go away eventually? Also, my temps were back up too high again (oddly enough its cooler outside then when I checked them yesterday and they were 3 deg lower), 88 deg. I'm going to try and pick up another fan at Wal-Mart after work tonight and see if that helps.

try freezing some water bottles/2 liter bottle and putting them around the plants and esp next to the fan. That'll bring your temp down.
One thing I tried that worked was a transplant into fresh soil. I used the same soil as before, just filled up a new cup with it. Fill the new cup up about 3/4 and then use 1/4 of the same soil from before (the soil around the root). It's dangerous but if you do it right you could save the plant. Use only as last resort

The frozen water bottle trick works, but talk about high maintnence. Youd be better off adding a fan and moving the light up as mentioned before. Just keep trying, not everyone gets it the first time around. Keep germing seeds (preferably bagseed while your learning) so you have plenty of seedlings to better your chances of a few survivors. One thing that has helped me tremendously, keeping a journal. I take pics and measurements daily, as well as documenting all waterings and nutes given. The more notes you take the better. When a problem pops up, before I go posting for help, I read through my notes to see if anything was done different for that particular plant, and 9 times outta 10, I find the answer myself in my grow journal.

When I was mentioning a grow journal, I meant a private journal that I keep, not on this site. Not that theres anything wrong with keeping a grow journal on this site, could be even more helpful with the right people passing along tips in posts. I just record too much info to keep it here. Although, my next grow, I will be putting up here on RIU hopefully to help others mostly but of coarse I expect to learn some new tricks myself from the experts.
