Hey dude, personally id get rid of carpet and put something waterproof down, linoleum or similar. Maybe a massive tray.

Now you want a hps and there's a couple of things to consider. The footprint of your light, the penetration, and the heat.
You could probably use a 1000w to light up that space but no point if you've got no means to vent. The heat off a 600w bulb is pretty high let alone the ballast itself.
How you gonna set up intake and extraction, this will play a big role in what light you can get away with?

yea ventilation shouldn't be an issue the closet has its own vent to the AC. and my hps is tiny its only 150 watts I figured this will be fine for now and when the plants start flowering I can get maybe a 250 watt, as long as I can keep the temps down. been going through hell getting seeds so many gift cards do not work since 2012 because of ''the patriot act'' wtf, its ok because it gives me time to set up my grow space, was being used as like a storage closet. what would be more practical a 150 watt and a 250 side by side or a 400 by itself? I see the two having much less penetration but maybe being able to cover more area = more plants? not sure

got a lr2 seed from a friend, germing it now while i wait for my real seed order. i dont think i need the hps for a seedling tho so when it pops im prolly jus gonna give it window light for the first week, plus im still tearing the carpet out of the closet.

more then likely before they put the roof on house the floor got rained on and absorbed water then they put the carpet down or its a exterior wall that is getting some moisture under the bottom plate of the wall from a sideing issue. Id bleach it then lay rubber over it. Also dont put your plant in the window. Will create a stretchy non indoor plant. Go to lowes or HD and buy a T5 or T8 flo for your seedlings. Also that closet is big...i ran a 250hps in a 2x2 closet 15 years ago with no ventilation just a hole in the ceiling for hot air to go and had no issues.

kk cool I looked at some prices online the flo tubes are very cheap and I actually been wanting some blue spectrum for side lighting , as for the mold/mildew I don't know what the fuck could have caused it but it looks old and not very lively, glad I pulled the carpet up and found it. so rep rep thanx for the window ledge warning also I read that more red/orange light early on promotes male plants... I know I know I thought b.s. but google it its totally legit

I saw grow bags at the head shop today was wondering if I could just use normal plastic bags with holes in the bottom, and I bought a cool fan 4 the grow op because its called the Chill Out lol also I put two bag seeds in peat pods today the lowryder 2 should break soil tmmrw. (ive never been a fan of germination without dirt) and lastly I installed shelves all throughout the closet so when the hps is hanging and the plant grows I can raise the light little by little.

on a side note I got all my tomatoe plants outside just tilled the soil and added a lot of perlite because its red clay where I live hope they like it, but today I had a new a/c installed, I have central air and the one that was running was fine but it was about 12 years old and I didn't want it going out in the middle of my grow. I think the vent in the closet is gonna be key in keeping temps down, my lr2 broke soil finally. the reason I update this even though nobody really follows is because I cant start my own journal because my profile is new or something I think im gonna start a grassity account because they have a lot more to their site.

ok been a while im goin to get pics up soon I have about half a dozen plants A1 and A2 are the oldest their so short and already starting side branches which seemed weird to me. these plants are only 4 or five inches tall and already have 5 nodes, this is most likely because I have two fans on them 24/7 and a hps in their face all day. changed my light sched. from 24/7 to 20/4 and in a week or two ill cut down to 18/6. its like 2 am and im tryna get my son back to sleep after that ill get u guys some pix

Hey man, your light schedule is for vegging but your bulb is for flowering. If that's the only bulb you have then you gotta pick up some cfls at least, or a MH, so you can veg your plants.

Or use just the HPS on a 12/12 schedule and flower from seed. I have seen this as common in more restricted spaces but with great results because they grow so much in flowering.

Yep. Just retread your last post. The light schedule and bulb your on is to account for the weirdness. Not the fan at all. With what you have, your best bet is to put these ladies on 12/12 right away and harvest when the bugs are ready. Go get a vegging bulb ASAP. MH will fit your fixture. But is heat is a concern, you should seriously!!!! Consider a UFO LED light. I have done a lot of research on these. Do research on them yourself and you will see they are perfect for vegging. Low heat!!!

I love the idea of led and plasma lighting but the prices are insane I wanna get a 400 watt hps and a conversion bulb for next gro, but have you ever heard of bagseed having more chance to hermie? I think I will take your advice and go 12 12 but im still gonna leave the t5 on for the extra watts. these plants just look so damn healthy I was scared it might shock them if I switched straight to 12/12 from here.

In regards to the bagseed to hermie ratio, idk :( some more experienced may help us out there. If your t5 isn't that big then your dominant color is the red. Mixing seems to be good but on a different scale. Like leaving the t5 on during flower seems like a great idea IMO . The UFOs are not that bad in price. Around 100. From what I gather there wattage does more per watt than others for the veg cycle. For a closet... Mehhh, you could probally get by with a 135 watt that you could find on sale maybe around 150. But reading up on reviews of these will have you seriously contemplating it lol. Sooooo much cooler and they run sooo much less energy. With the money your gonna have to spend on exhaust to keep temps down, you could have traded that for a led and no heat issue. It is tempting I know :)
