Do you think it is better to start in small pots and transplant once or twice ....or just start in a big pot and stay in t till the end

I start in small pots and transplant two times. My clone start in Dixie cups then one gal pots and then 5 gal pots. I was told to start in small ones and transplant because it is easier to over water a small plant in a big pot because the roots don't reach all of the soil and the extra water just sits in the bottom of the pot and gets stagnant

I was told the same thing and I do the same start in 16 oz party cups then 1 gallons to 3 gallons final home.

If starting from seed then it is best to use a small pot.

Transplant once or twice during veg finishing with your chosen large pot.

The trouble with starting seeds in a large pot is that the roots tend to grow out into the large container before the plant actually puts out any more foliage. It looks as if its stunted but in actual fact its just concentrating on root growth.

IMO its best to allow plants roots to fill a smaller container before transplanting as this creates a very good healthy root structure.

If transplanting from clone.
I clone in rockwool, once rooted I transplant into small pots approx 0.5L. I allow them to fill this pot with roots and then transplant into my final pot.

Its also alot easier to overwater a small plant in a large pot.
