Starting plants indoor early and putting out in Greenhouse

  • Can some of you guys who seem to really know your outdoor/greenhouse growing techniques help me figure out exactly how you plants dont flower when you start them so early indoors? like when do you plant the seeds? At what light cycle? How many days till you sex? What light cycle do you use to revert them back to veg? When do you take outside or in greenhouse under natural light? Ive got some seeds I want to start but Im afraid that by the time they fill a 5 gallon bucket in like a month, Itll be maybe mid march and I feel like the daylight hours would be too short and they will start flowering. I read that you shouldnt let your plants get rootbound when you put them outside or they WILL flower. I do plan on using a greenhouse so frost is not an issue for me. Thanks

what? If you are angered by the format, I apologize, it didnt show up like that until after I hit post. I believe its still readable

A bright light at dawn or dusk coming from a greenhouse would be obvious - aka not stealthy at all.. Whats the problem ?

Maybe not an industrial sized one but its pretty easy to hide a greenhouse even out in the middle of the woods... A GH to me is just a structure that lets light in and protects the plants. My favorite are the car port converts with clear plastic tops, very stealthy imo.

stealth is not a problem, I only do legal grows and I have all my paperwork. I was kinda wondering though if planting with seeds, not clones, how I could get the biggest plants possible and be able to have them outside without supplemental lighting. I had a few ideas and would love to get input. One is to keep the ladies under 14 hours light until April and bring them down to the natural light levels then throw them in the greenhouse. Or I was thinking what if I kept them under lower levels of light like 12 or 13 but then interrupt the dark cycle with like 15-30 minutes of intense light, then by April I could throw them outside and they wouldnt really freak out from a huge change in the light cycle and start flowering.

why no supplemental lighting? could you have a few cfls on a string light?..

also this : Or I was thinking what if I kept them under lower levels of light like 12 or 13 but then interrupt the dark cycle with like 15-30 minutes of intense light...

sounds like ur going to hermi it out.....light stress is not sometime you should push

go google doublejj carport greenhouse 2011 and copy it...it's like a guide to instant trees...

from what Ive heard from people and from my own experience, interrupting the light cycle when they are in veg doesnt push the plants into hermie, only when the dark cycle is interrupted a lot during flowering.

Ohh okay.. So if you germ them tomorrow and they take a couple days to show there tap root.. You could veg them for about a month, until about the 2nd week of march and put them out then.. They might get to about 2' indoors.. And with two more weeks or so of veg outdoors.. They might be anywhere from 4'-7' by the end depending on there sativa/indica mix..

check the sunrise sunset times for your area. mid march where i am and many others are at about 12 hrs daylight, so in your greenhouse you need to provide supplimental lighting for another few hours. also be warned when you get rid of the light, that the cycle you had doesnt differ too much from the outside cycle, meaning; say you turn you supplimental lighting on for 5 hrs after sunset, so its on an 18/6 cycle. The daylight hrs outside get up to 14 and you feel you can get rid of the supplimental lighting. well that drop from 18 hrs to 14 hrs will cause your plants to flower. It'd probably be best to keep your cycle going around 14, or 14.5 hrs, then get rid of your supplimental lighting when the daylight hrs are at 14.5. which would be right around the 1st week of may where i am. you follow me?

igrow, when I grow indoors, I can get a 5 foot plant in a 5 gallon pot within 1 month with 1000w lights. Mr. Marijuana, I totally get you, how much (powerwise) supplemental lighting do you recommend per plant? Im also worried about having plants rootbound by the time I take them outside. Do you think that would effect there need to start flowering or do you think they would be fine if they were a little rootbound for a few weeks?

atleast provide the bare minimum lumens it requires during veg. the majority of the day theyll be supplied with daylight, its only gonna need the extra light for a few hrs, to prevent the plant from sleeping. as for being rootbound, it shouldnt cause issues with flowering early, but if you worried about it just gradually increase your container size, maybe 1gal-3-5-ground. or just 3gal- 5-ground, that should be plenty, your only having them in containers a period of 2 months, so you really shouldnt have any rootbound issues
