starting some clones question.

Going to cut some clones. It will only be my second time. Here is my question. Do I need to put the lid on the cloning tray? I know it keeps the humidity up, can I just spray them more often. The lid I have isnt very high, clones are going to be a little taller and dont want to smash them down. I see on the bubblers they have no lids, so just wondering?

As clones have no roots to drink, it will be very important to keep them moist or they will die in a hurry ( less than 1 day). I tried to do one under my lights with the vegging plants and it did not make it 3 days( I sprayed it like every 2 hours, and the ones that were in the dome did just fine.

If you need a taller humidome, use a 2 liter bottle and cut the mouth out of it, or a gallon size ziplock baggie can work in a pinch as well. I have seen people use a cake holder and large tupperware containers that have worked too.

Hope this helps

Peace and Good Cloning

You can get a large foil tray with lid from any supermarket. They're like $2 and excellent humidity domes, probably 10" clearance with the top on.

These guys have it spot on Mr. Outdoors! In my opinion with these clones being in such a fragile state and with the road ahead of them which is rooting, you want to set them up for success. As they do not have roots yet, their water uptake is hindered greatly so they must rely heavily on the ambient humidity around them to keep themselves hydrated and energized. I personally use an fish aquarium and saran wrap as a top to keep in moisture. Keeps it nice and humid and my clones love it. I also make sure i have watered the mother plant before taking clones JUST to make sure that clones are as hydrated as possible.
